A typical pour for a tripel, with a nice golden-to-orange body and modest head/retention. But unlike a lot of the poorer American efforts, this one avoids the excessively sweet slickness and instead gives you a nicely spiced, fairly hoppy brew that has a notable tang with malts to balance. Not world-rocking, but better than the average suggests. dankman38 (228), Somewhere in, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 6, 2007 Light hoppy aroma, light gold color, earthen hoppy flavor with a slight "twang" that shows it’s alcohol, a little syrupy feel with a moderately bitter finish. Not bad, I’d drink it again. HogTownHarry (4025), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 25, 2007 Bottle (22oz). Shared with blankboy and biegaman, my bottle. Clear light gold, smallish off-white head. Light aroma - sweet malt, green apple and banana, sweet spice, grassy hops. Taste has more hop and alcohol bitterness - grassy, floral hops, solid malt body - perhaps a bit aggressive, but a pretty decent American tripel. Sticky body, good carbonation, quite alcoholic mouthfeel, bitter aftertaste. Pretty impressive. milewide (618), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

Good
Bad
If it’s good I really like it
If it’s bad it’s toilet water.
To me black tulip is in the good category.
It’s not the best triple I’ve had, not close but It’s really tasty. It has a nice sweet semi malty slightly hoppy taste--that kind of covers it doesn’t it?
Not a particularly big head especially for a triple but overall I really like it. chimpscampee (566), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 10, 2007 22 oz bottle. Poured a clear golden color. Bubbly white head with good retention. Only a little lace was left behind. Aroma was of yeasty bread dough, white wine, and clove. Slightly sweet up front with a dry, bitter finish. Full bodied and fruity with peach and subdued banana flavors accented by clove and warm alcohol. Not a bad abbey clone. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 24, 2007 This Abbey Tripel pours a light orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized head. Aroma is sweet, yeasty and a touch of alcohol. A medium bodied triple. Malts are orange and fruity. Some herbal and floral flavor aspects as well. Nice balance. There is a very pronounced alcohol flavor, without being very alcohol hot. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol burn.
