Commercial Description:
Since the early 1600's, the Dutch have attempted to breed a pure black tulip. Many have tried and a few have come close...but none have succeeded. Call it the Holy Grail of the tulip world. In honor of this elusive flower we have brewed this special elixir. We have combined the finest Belgian malt, rare European hops, an authentic Belgian yeast and finally, the brew is dusted with tulip petals. The resulting blend is nothing less than magical.

This Abbey Tripel pours a light orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized head. Aroma is sweet, yeasty and a touch of alcohol. A medium bodied triple. Malts are orange and fruity. Some herbal and floral flavor aspects as well. Nice balance. There is a very pronounced alcohol flavor, without being very alcohol hot. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol burn.

pours clear gold color. taste is a sweet, with floral notes, fruit, sugar. given it’s 9%, hides the alcohol well. finishes on a sour note. sort of underwhelming overall.

Appearance: Pours a bright, light yellow body with great clarity and a thinnish, off-white head. Smell: Aroma of candied fruit and lemon peel kneaded into a lightly sweetened dough. Also, as one would expect, there’s a little alcohol in there, too. Taste: A tart, fruity apple kick upfront fades into a light grainy sweetness with some clove spiciness. Finishes dry and sour. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Slightly syrupy. Drinkability: I’ve got to acknowledge that something seems a bit amiss with this one. Maybe that something is me.

Bottle. Love the name (and its history). Cloying candis and a very Belgian yeast in the aroma. Sedimenty golden body with firm carbonation and a soapy white head. Prominent alcohol in the taste, but not too harsh; the sweetness is backed off significantly from what was expected by the nose. Highly carbonated, medium body is crisp and finishes with a little booze. Touch of oiliness. Could use more malt, and the yeast could better shine through in the mouth a bit more. Avg tripel.

Bottle at Mondial de la Bière (Montréal). Limpid blond body topped with an average white foamy/creamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma. Taste is complex and hides the alcohol very well. It carries floral, fruity and yeasty notes. Ends with a long, robust, warming finish. Very enjoyable!
