Commercial Description:
Since the early 1600's, the Dutch have attempted to breed a pure black tulip. Many have tried and a few have come close...but none have succeeded. Call it the Holy Grail of the tulip world. In honor of this elusive flower we have brewed this special elixir. We have combined the finest Belgian malt, rare European hops, an authentic Belgian yeast and finally, the brew is dusted with tulip petals. The resulting blend is nothing less than magical.

Pours hazy golden into the glass, with a reductive soapy head that leaves sparse lace. The nose is of spices, yeast and candied sugars. The flavors have a lot of the candi sugars and hints of esters upfront, with some yeast hitting the mid-palate, and hints of alcohol and spices and bitter hops culminating the finish. The mouthfeel is smooth, with zesty carbonation levels. The body in comparison to the flavors going on, unfortunately, throws this one a little out of whack. It’s just not completely linear from beginning to end. Nice offering, just not top-tier.

A deep gold trippel with a small white head. Powerful flavors of candi sugar, with supporting bitterness. Sweet and bitter at the same time, with strong floral aromas. These aromas are the distinguishing feature of the beer; the result is quite good, though less than spectacular.

Bottle from Once Upon a Vine - South on 08/15/2009. Fairly clear pale golden body with a medium frothy white head. Spicy aroma with some light fruit. Somewhat dry floral, and spicy flavor with some apple and fruity notes. Medium light body with moderately high carbonation.

Pours a clear yellow body with a thin lasting white head. Very spicy, sweet malts and vague fruit flavor. Different than I expect from a tripel but not bad.

On tap at MBG Summer Festival. Poured a pale gold with a white head. Aroma consisted of notes of coriander, citrus and sweet grain. Taste was pleasantly sweet with citrus and flora notes. Pretty basic.
