Commercial Description:
Since the early 1600's, the Dutch have attempted to breed a pure black tulip. Many have tried and a few have come close...but none have succeeded. Call it the Holy Grail of the tulip world. In honor of this elusive flower we have brewed this special elixir. We have combined the finest Belgian malt, rare European hops, an authentic Belgian yeast and finally, the brew is dusted with tulip petals. The resulting blend is nothing less than magical.

Bottle, purchased July ’05. I keep focusing on the name and being surprised when this pours out a nice golden color, with a blush of red in the center. Aroma is a light syrup with overtones of medicinal alcohol. Extra strong taste, but not as “beery” as might be expected. Strange rubbery aftertaste, with notes of pear and apricot, then a strong suggestion of honey. My label does not mention the tulip petals, certainly can’t get any suggestion of it in this batch. Despite the distractions mentioned here, it’s a fine, heady drink, at least pleasing to the eye.

12 oz bottle - thanks to Eyedrinkale for the trade. Pours clear orangey golden with a moderate white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is heavy of sweet, dark bread with a bit of sugar and spice - quite yeasty with some hints of citrus as well. Flavor is also very sweet and bready, but contains a nice floral hop presence with a bit of clove, nutmeg and warming alcohol. Full body and smooth carbonation. This one occurs as a little heavy handed compared to some of my favorite tripels, but it’s still a nice treat. Thanks Mike!

355ml brown bottle shared with gilvanblight. Orange pour, lemon yellow highlights, almost no head. Nose is fairly alcoholic, light layer of banana and yeast. Taste has some citrus, spicy, yeasty and bready. Lingereing finish, lemon notes with yeast. Smooth mouthfeel.

Nice aroma, pears, honey, grainy malt, a bit of alcohol, a little phenolic. Clear golden color, almost no head. Fruity flavor, honey and malt, alcohol is noticeable. Seems heavy for the style, carbonation is low. Not bad, nice flavors, it’s biggest flaw is the body and carbonation.

An orange beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet malty with some notes of honey. The flavor is very sweet with slight notes of grapefruit and a prickling very carbonated mouthfeel.

Very nice pour,a light golden body with a sudsy white head that sadly lingers none too long. The aroma is quite fruity, apples and maraschino cherries, somewhat tart, with a hint of alcohol. The latter remains well hiden except for a bit of warmth added to the creamy mouthfeel. The fruit remains strong in the taste accompanied by a sweet malt and some peppery spiciness. It finishes on a warm sweet note, quite satisfying. It states in the description that "the brew is dusted with tulip petals," but I really didn’t detect any effect caused by that.

Golden pour with fat, soap bubbles on top. Beautiful aroma of mashed bananas, apple cider and spice. Full, complex body compliments the fruity aroma. More deep yeasty fruits work well with loads of sweet malt. Nice, even finish is quietly warming. Very nice.

Nice light coloration with a minimal white head... Aroma is very fruity with a little bit of apple-type sweetness. Flavor starts off a little tart and then smooths out into sweeter fruit flavors.
