Clear brown pour thin off white head and a ring of lace at the top of the glass. Sweet roasted malts and toffee on the nose. Chocolate and roast flavor. Creamy finish

Sampled from 12-oz bottle during Cellars Wine & Spirits weekly beer tasting. Pours a semi-clear dark brown brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin off-white ring. Aroma of roasted dark malt, some toffee, dark chocolate, and caramel. Taste is medium to full bodied, with flavors of roasted dark malt, toffee, caramel, chocolate and some flowery hops. Finish is semi-sweet with a light chocolate and toasted dark malt aftertaste.

Draught at Woodward Avenue Brewery and Berkley Front. Reminds me of a cross between a porter and a brown ale; there’s a definite sweetness to the finish on top of the cream and slight bitter bite. Nice body, rich without being overwhelmingly thick.

Bottle at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 11/24/2008. Dark black body with ruby highlights and a small off-white head. Sweet roast, caramel, chocolate and toffee aroma. Sweet chocolate and roast flavor with some light caramel. Medium body wtih mdoerate carbonation.

12oz bottle from a buddy at a frisbee game - thanks, Steve! Pretty anonymous amber-brown pour, with faint carbonation and a kind of dull color. The nose is semi-sweet, with hints of toffee and just slightly dank autumn fruits. Mouthfeel is thin, carbonation is light, and the stillness does little for the relatively character-less flavor. Slightly nutty and malty in just the right by-the-numbers dose, I suppose.

A rather murky brown pour with a smallish white head. Aroma is quite roasty, almost reminding of a porter. Medium bodied, adequate carbonation, could be a little more present. I’m not going to go as far as to say it is watery. Roast malt and nut with some sugar sweetened coffee. Hint of mocha as well. Pretty darn good, better than I was expecting. As far as a brown ale goes, you could do much worse. Side note, I can’t help but comment on the previous review. 0.5 are you kidding me? Even the review doesn’t come off as that bad. I will assume you made a mistake or don’t understand the rating system.

Pours a deep dark brown with a hint of red in it. White head that fades rather fast. Comes across with a roastiness and even a burntness. There are some caramel notes and other hints of sweetness throughout this beer. I will have to say that it is very average, a little too sweet for a typical brown ale.

12 oz. Opaque with a small, fleeting head. Aroma is smores: chocolate, graham cracker and marshmallow. Flavor is the same with a little more roasty nut bittering on the end. Medium body is watery and lightly carbonated.
