Hey, count me in as a fan of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, but the real thing is even better. Aroma is strong sweet/sour cherry, and emanates from an appropriately red body (including a pink-tinged head!). Flavor is a medley of typical cherry aspects: some sours, some sweets, some bitters, and some woody hints (note: some woodies was edited). I agree with hoppygrrrl that cinnamon plays a role here. I also have a hard time finding the "ale" beneath the cherry, but this is still good brew, although a notch or two below the Ichabod. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA

Not impossible, though; there’s some hop action that survives the tart, acidic, also slightly sweet cherry onslaught. It’s made with cherry juice. I like it, but I think I like fruit stouts better. And this is way more beery than, say, New Glarus’s Raspberry, IMO. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada

Spicy, tart, some cherry flavor, quite dry. Finally a cherry beer that isn’t just a lager with concentrated fruit juice and sugar added. Nice work on this one. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 16, 2002 Deep inhale of cherry brandy, looks like tart cherry juice, the taste is
sharp with cherry soda action and ... soap. I’m not kidding. Might be a
Cherry Ale to rival the one in Pontiac (at King’s) were it not for the
unmistakable soapy presence. That, combined with the cherry intensity,
helps diminishing the feeling that you’re actually drinking beer. P-tor44 (886), Anchorage, Alaska, USA

Since I returned to Michigan I’ve been really happy to see them opening it up a bit. I wasn’t expecting much from this Cherry ale but it beat my expectations. Very mild and subtle sour cherry aroma. Dark red, looked like the kind of extra dark blood you get when your bleeding out in the cold skiing. Cherries make this beer delightfully sour but the real beauty for me was the good hop presence you could feel sitting underneath the cherries. A solid beer from michigans forgotten brewery. Medicinal for sure, and I liked this more than Sam Adam’s Cherry wheat, for example. Refreshing but I would ease off the cherry a bit and allow the body of the beer to show through. Overall well done.
