EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA Jul 3, 2009 Black, small cream head. Carmel, cognac, and malt, lots of malt aroma. Creamy, creamy, with just a great malted flavor. Some chocolate, some caramel and vanilla. It does have an odd bit of a metallic, maybe even blood flavor. I wonder if that was intentional? Overall, reminds me of eating a caramel sucker when I was a kid, and then with enough bitter and warmth to remind me I am an adult. Naka (520), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 1, 2009 On tap at 6 n Save. Pours a midnight black with a thick frothy tan head. The aroma was cocoa, dark fruit, alcohol, and sweetness. The flavor was a sweet coffee, latte with some black cherry that hid the 9% very well. The finish is where you get the toasted oak flavors and catch a little bit of the bourbon. This was very tasty. ljay6880 (68), , Pennsylvania, USA Jun 30, 2009 12 oz draft from the Brass Rail. Poured a midnight black with a medium amount of think tan head. Nose was cherries, malt, figs, alcohol, bourbon, and very, very light, perhaps chocolate sweetness. Taste was much the same with a light dry bitter for a finish. A very nice big beer, yet the body was surprisingly small. Could almost be a session beer, that is, till the ABV reared itself. TheCaptain (430), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 27, 2009 Large bottle brought from the Ohio area - Great aroma with that Oak Aged goodness appearing from the nose to the palate. Oak spirits with smooth caramel malts and some vanilla notes. Perfect blend of alc. with the aged quality you would expect, a robust and smooth enjoyable stout. Blaze312 (87), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Jun 14, 2009 22oz Bomber. Pours Black with a brown head. Aroma and taste of caramel, butterscotch, and vanilla. Very drinkable and would probably have again. GranvilleTim (289), Granville, Illinois, USA Jun 9, 2009 Black pour with brown head. Oak and vanilla notes with roasted sweetness, Taste is smooth- oak, vanilla, roasted malt, slight sweetness, and did I mention smooth. What a nice tasting brew. For 8.5%, you don’t notice the alcohol. The oak flavor becomes more pronounced as it warms and the vanilla gives off a great mouthfeel. Nice lacing on the glass. Tasty beer. coyotehunter (340), , Michigan, USA Jun 9, 2009 The first thing I notice about this beer is the queer smell of Butterscotch. Odd. Pours a deep brown, but not much in the way of a head.Big flavors of butterscotch, caramel, some toffee, and maybe a light note of vanilla. Some dirt is detected as well in the end, followed by a slight alcohol warmth in the throat. Not bad. roder60 (927), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 9, 2009 Pours dark brown with tanish offwhite head. Aroma is boozy toffee and butterscotch. Aroma is sweet caramel, white chocolate, bit of plums, and a nice boozy warmth undertone. Overall, very enjoyable.
