Jun 14, 2009 I wasn’t sure what to expect from this brew since I personally find oad aged brews a bit hit or miss. This beer was a hit for me. A very active nose with sweet bourbon and vanilla. The flavour was very nice as well. The oak instilled a nice smoky vanilla flavour but it was not overbearing and blended nicely with the more traditonal malty sweetness. Very impressed

Jun 9, 2009 Black pour with brown head. Oak and vanilla notes with roasted sweetness, Taste is smooth- oak, vanilla, roasted malt, slight sweetness, and did I mention smooth. What a nice tasting brew. For 8.5%, you don’t notice the alcohol. The oak flavor becomes more pronounced as it warms and the vanilla gives off a great mouthfeel. Nice lacing on the glass. Tasty beer.

Jun 9, 2009 The first thing I notice about this beer is the queer smell of Butterscotch. Odd. Pours a deep brown, but not much in the way of a head.Big flavors of butterscotch, caramel, some toffee, and maybe a light note of vanilla. Some dirt is detected as well in the end, followed by a slight alcohol warmth in the throat. Not bad.

Jun 9, 2009 Pours dark brown with tanish offwhite head. Aroma is boozy toffee and butterscotch. Aroma is sweet caramel, white chocolate, bit of plums, and a nice boozy warmth undertone. Overall, very enjoyable.

Jun 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a little bit of tan head. Aromas are weak... earth, peat, toffee, wet leaves, vanilla. Flavor is very good... vanilla and toffee are the main draws, with a little bit of a peat and dark fruit edge to it. This is pretty good.

Jun 7, 2009 Amazing smell of vanilla, spice, alcohol towards scotch, some toffee and wood. It’s pretty amazing how much this smells like old curmudgeon from founders. Mouthfeel leaves me wanting more weight to substantiate all that’s going on here, it is literally watery and fizzy. Flavor is a big drop off from the smell. It seems like the beer loses a lot of complexity in the transition from smell to taste. The flavors is of alcohol, scotch ( For some reason I don’t get bourbon ) and charred barrel but no hop presence to balance it out and no malt trace to support the whole thing. This beer is wicked aggresive but lacking in a very fundemental way. Wierd. Sorry New Holland. 2009 22 oz.

Jun 5, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown, with a tan head. Aroma is vanilla, caramel, chocolate, bourbon, and dark fruit. Flavor is bourbon, vanilla, dark fruit, end dry. A bit more sweetness and body would make this killer.
