Commercial Description:
Dragon’s Milk is a 17th century term used to describe the strong beer usually reserved for royalty. This strong ale was aged in oak for over 120 days. The aging process extracts flavors from the wood, which contribute to its complex character. Hints of bourbon flavor perfectly compliment its roasted malts to produce a beer fit for a King.

2009 Bottle - Thanks BrewCzar - Pours a thin black with a small tan head...aroma is massive oak, vanilla and booze...flavour is similar, dry, oaky, vanilla...some tart oak, but the finish is creamy and sweet...great brew!

Probably one of the best strong ales I’ve ever tried. Pours a very dark colour and contains a mouthful of dark roasty flavours. Can really taste the bourbon on your lips but doesn’t harsh you away. A great beer for after dinner!

bottle poured a dark red brown in color with a thin frothy dark tan head that retained well. aroma has nutty malt, caramel, bourbon, light barrel wood, and vanilla. medium light mouth feel with average carbonation. flavor has nice bourbon hits, barrel, brown malt, light hop bitterness, and some oats. nice and creamy but well malted. this really benefited from the barrel aging both in flavor and texture.

Smells malty with notes of roasted barley and chocolate malt. Pours dark, but not exceptional with thin white head. Taste is nicely balance with coffee, carmel, chocolate, and oak. Could use a little more body, but enjoyable over all.

Bottle from Raleigh WBF. Thought I tried the oak aged version (listed separately on this site), but seems like Dragon’s Milk is always oak aged so I’m rating this version. Pours a dark brown with some ruby highlights topped by a thin, creamy, tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate (perhaps more so than any other beer I’ve rated to date), Bailey’s Irish Cream, bourbon, oak. Taste is similar with loads of creamy milk chocolate, a spicy bourbon alcohol bite, vanilla ice cream, and a dry, oaky finish. Really just an awesome beer.

2008 bottle; thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours dark cola brown with foamy off-white head. Nose is roast, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and oaky excellence. Flavor is decadent: chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, roast, lingering dark sweetness- borderline dark fruit with lingering vanilla. Thoroughly enjoyable medium-bodied stout.

Bottle. Blackish beer with a tan head. Milk chocolate aroma. Chocolate, light oatmeal, and light oak flavor. Medium-plus bodied. Chocolate, light milk and light malt lingers with a bit of toasty malts.

2008 bottle courtesy of siebenmorgan. Pours a pitch black with one finger foamy white-tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, vanilla, wood, some notes of bourbon, caramel, nuts, brown sugar, hints of molasses. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, brown sugar, caramel, some hints of toffee, molasses, spice. Generally medium body with a pleasing vanilla and bourbon finish.
