RyanMM (45), Ferndale, Michigan, USA Apr 19, 2009 Pours deep garnet. Minimal head, almost zero lacing. Slightly sweet, very thick, smooth on the tongue at first but then the alcohol content hits you over the head with a sledgehammer. An oakey, wood-aged sledgehammer, very reminiscent of whiskey. Ever-so-slight tones of vanilla. Couldn’t drink more than one of these at a time, but definitely good every now and again. Suede53 (39), Canton, Ohio, USA Apr 19, 2009 [Tap] Dark brown, almost black in color with a faint head. Nearly opaque. Aroma was sweet and caramely with a little woody smoke accent. Taste was sweet with a lot of milky caramel. Also some vanilla (marshmellow?) and smoke with a faint bourbon-esque alcohol kick on finish. Fairly thick, slightly syrupy mouthfeel. One of my favorites. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 16, 2009 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized brown head. The aroma was malty, toasty and had a bit of vanilla. The flavor was sour, malty and toasty with a long toasty vanilla finish. The body was moderately thick and creamy. Earlier Rating: 3/30/2008 Total Score: 3.7 Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized creamy tan head that faded quickly. The aroma was sweet and bitter with light roasty malts and a moderate note of vanilla. The flavor was strong vanilla, roasty malts, bitter, tangy and vaguely fruity. Complex but a bit odd. The finish was roasty vanilla. The body was moderately creamy. Interesting. HolidayBeerGuy (50), Detroit, Michigan, USA Apr 14, 2009 12oz. bottle, pours dark brown, the oak is evident in the aroma, vanilla and dark fruit to follow, good mouthfeel and carbonation, smooth, small amount of caramel, finish is smooth, lingering oak, dark fruit on the palate. A very enjoyable oak aged beer. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Apr 11, 2009 great flippin stuff, wow, perfect barrel aged goodness, beautiful super delicious mouthfeel, a nice roast and nice oak subtlety ...come on unted!! 2-1 vs sunderland. . i don’t even remember where i got this but who cares , this is bliss.. .. . .

I had this parrot. The parrot talked, but it did not say "I’m hungry." So it died.
USCBeerMan (103), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Apr 9, 2009 1 pt 6 oz bottle. Cant describe this beer any better than "jimmack34". A significant bourbon oak taste and aroma. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 9, 2009 [Bottle from early 08 opened 4.9.09] Pours a dark murky dull brown with a small frothy beige bubbly head. Aroma of oxidized malts, overripe dark fruit, burnt molasses, a bit grainy. Flavor is quite dull and bitter, gentle sweet, oxidized malts, raisins, hay, milk chocolate, bourbon and cream. Medium/full creamy mouthful with zero carbonation. JimVanGumby (11), Cottleville, Missouri, USA Apr 7, 2009 We were initially mistaken in thinking that this was a stout. Our mistake, nonetheless, we were very impressed with the overall quality and taste. Easy to drink with hints of toffee and oak. A definite favorite in my minimal collection.
