Aroma is of intense bourbon, vanilla, coffee, and chocolate. Taste is light chocolate and caramel malt, but the overall bourbon character makes only a trace appearance. Overall it’s a damn good beer for the style. Petrucci914 (578), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 31, 2009 Pours a pitch black with a medium off-white head, which leaves a few streams of lacing. Aroma is vanilla, maple syrup, and bourbon. Taste is smooth; chocolate, some vanilla and maple characteristics, aligned with some oak and bourbon. Not too shabby. Surprised that it is an ESA. Pretty sure this is in the stout family. BeerGestapo (738), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of vanilla, molasses, malts and wood. The taste is of dark malts, caramel, vanilla and a hint of bourbon. Mouthfeel is smooth and sweet and finishes with a very mild dryness. Overall, this strong ale is incredibly easy to drink and you don’t taste the 9%. BVery (461), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA
