pantanap (1322), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 16, 2009 12oz bottle from armanetti’s... pours a dark brown, cola-like, with a thin soapy light beige head... Aroma of roasted malt, cola, dark fruit, vanilla, and light bourbon. Quite a lot going on in a good way... Flavors were an intermingling of the aforementioned scents without anything being too assertive than the rest. Moderately sweet all around with nice barrel notes. Finishes off with some bitterness. Somewhat lively carbonated with a creamy mouthfeel. keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Oct 16, 2009 Loved it. Dark brown almost black with a small tan head. Nice aroma of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon. Flavor is similar with wood coming through. Very smooth finish. My first thought was whoa, this is gonna be good. Arayaga2 (931), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 14, 2009 Brown opaque, and pours as if still, but forms a nice cocoa colored head. Aroma is sweet chocolate, englishy malt, and raisins. Taste is very chocolate milky, with smooth malt, bourbon, oak and vanilla. Reminds me of Weyerbacher Insanity with more chocolate and less bourbon. $10/22oz hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Oct 13, 2009 22 oz bottle from Liquor Outlet. Brown in color with some ruby highlights, small lasting head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel/molasses, vanilla, and oak. Taste is smooth and malty, alot of molasses, touches of chocolate and tobacco, oak, vanilla and some well integrated whiskey. Some alcohol warm in the finish but very drinkable. Full bodied. Very nice. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Oct 7, 2009 bottle, black pour with a thin almost white head. thinking about roasting a chicken to have with this. what would chicken stuffed with shrimp be like? F it, i’m gonna do it. smell the barrel very dominant in the nose. bit of roast and a lot of booze too. tatstes like cheap whiskey at first, this better get better. roast and light coffee and cocoa linger in the oakey finish. damn that lady in the stands had a hell of an upper body, good job cameraman. roasted peanuts is what comes to mind once i get past that overbearing wood and booze flavor.once i adjust to this i can really start to pick out some enjoyable flavors. i think i’m going to rub the chicken with a green chile habanero dry rub, add the shrimp with a bit of leftoversalmon, bbq sauce and a bit of rice. need to get the rice going now i guess. well, rockies lose game 1. like the body in this though, just the right thick mouthfeel. Prometheus (97), Fayetteville, North Carolina, USA Oct 3, 2009 Oak aged ale out of the bottle.
Very impressive.
Deep brown, not much head.
Bourbon, oak, coffee, dark fruit.
Very nice! One of the best beers I’ve ever tasted. forsides (66), union, New Jersey, USA Sep 28, 2009 drank this last nite, so i dont have the most detailed review, but i do remember being very impressed. a very tasty oak aged ale.. the oak was not overpowering at all. great bourbon notes and flavors, balanced with a very nice ale that was not as highly malted as a lot of other strong ales. very drinkable. oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland Sep 27, 2009 Bottled@Monks Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Very deep ambery brown colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is nuts, coffee, some liquorice, mild dark dry fruits as well as some slight alcoholic notes. Also mild ashy notes as it warms up. Flavour is vanilla, wood, liquorice, coffee, dark dry fruits as well as some herbal notes. Nicely balanced brew.
