stchloe (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 27, 2008 OBF 2008 What a wicked awesome name for a beer, especially one so good. The oak flavor lingers at the end but still leaves smoothly. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Jul 26, 2008 OBF 2008. Smooth and creamy palate. Pours black with a smooth tan head. Chocolate up front, milky and soft, with a woody earthy finish. Slightly boozy in the finish. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 26, 2008 Pours a dark black color with very light beige short lived head. Smell is very nice with roastiness, bourbon, and some light oakiness too. Taste is smooth, lightly roasty and very chocolately, and a touch dry and oaky. Decent mouthfeel, but could be a tad richer. Pretty good overall, but the flavor didn’t quite live up to the smell.
zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA Jul 21, 2008 Taste 7/8 bottle (no date). Looks: Black an d tan lacing head. Aroma: Roast, chocolate and bourbon. Taste: Nice creamy bourbon and chocolate. Roast malt, caramel and a little alcohol. Raisin and plum. Sticky and oily. Good for an occasional. (I’m a whiskey fan.) elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA Jul 20, 2008 Pours a oily dark brown with no head. Aroma is a little on the whiskey side. Tastes of burnt grain, chocolate, little raisin, some toffee. Finishes with a sticky burnt taste. Narnad (681), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Jul 20, 2008 Pours very dark brown, leaning more towards a blackness in color. Almost no head and very little carbonation from the 1 pint 6 oz bottle. Aroma consisted of a good chocolate and roasted malt character with a bit of a root beer and a nuttiness undertone. Flavor had a very strong bourbon, vanilla and alcohol character, along with milder notes of chocolate and great roasted flavors. The bourbon flavor was a bit overpowering for my taste. radagast83 (1272), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jul 17, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small head. Aroma is malty, with a solid, wonderful vanilla and caramel twist. Extremely tasty. Notes of oak, vanilla, chocolate, and roasted malts. This beverage is good - but definitely a beer to share as a 22 oz is just about too much for one sitting - even as good as I found it. LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Jul 17, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours dark brown in color with very thin brown head. Aroma roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste dark chocolate, oak, vanilla and caramel with bitter finsih.
