KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 24, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Dark brown color. Thin, light tan head. Fades very quickly. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, coffee. Thin body, but not lacking for flavor. Nice balance of vanilla, dark fruits, some coffee cake. Smooth, creamy finish with tons of boozy alcohol. Nice beer, very easy to drink. radiomgb (1920), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jun 23, 2008 Dark brown in colour, lingering brown coloured head, good lacing. The aroma is of toffee, fruit, quite sweet, chocolate, biscuits and alcohol. The flavour has some vanilla, chocolate, rich toffee cookies, alcohol and dark fruits. Alcoholic and rather sweet mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes thin leaving the alcohol to become more pronounced.
Too much alcohol heat came through in this for my liking. I grew tired of it rather quickly.
650ml bottle obtained in a trade with TheCheeseMan, thanks Dan.

ewestern (198), Ohio, USA Jun 22, 2008 Pours with a dark reddish-black color with a small head. Aroma is caramel and coffee, the flavor is the same with a hint of vanilla. Full body is dry and somewhat carbonated on the tongue. vaughn (4), miamisburg, Ohio, USA does not count Jun 21, 2008 pours with a dark roasted coffee look, head is small and fades quick, taste has rich flavor with smoke, coffee and dark fruits. very fulfilling beer the ending has you wanting another. @ 8.5 abv. scoobysnak (249), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Jun 20, 2008 Pours nearly black, but a slight reddish hue barely makes its way through. With a head that disappears almost as soon as it forms. Smell is dark fruits, some sweet notes and a touch of chocolate that I can just make out. Taste is silky smooth in the mouth. The initial taste I get is the oak, then the sweet flavors and the dark fruits linger at the end. Good mouthfeel and decent taste.
ReademNwheat (174), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 19, 2008 From a bottle pours black with small head that faded fast. aromas of coffee. More coffee and chocolate notes in the flavor. A sorta vanilla vodka like taste is in there too which was off putting. solid stout. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 17, 2008 650 ml that says 8.5% abv (not 9). Nearly opaque chocolate with a quarter-inch head that fades to a lasting spit of a halo. Aroma of figs, caramel, and chocolate bread pudding. Complex flavors of earthy caramel, chocolate, smoke, vanilla, charred wood, raisins, oak, whiskey, a hint of bitter and metallic herb, slight acidic sourness and portwine. Medium-heavy body is smooth, dry, slightly tingly, and just watery enough to be dangerously drinkable. dolemite77 (184), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Jun 7, 2008 Pours a dark brown (not quite opaque, but damn close)--- zero head. Aroma is nice, but just a bit weak. I expected more of a kick from a brew this aged. Flavor is raisins, with a good bit of vanilla (likely from the barrel). Started out a bit watery, but as it warmed, seemed to "thicken" up and have the character I expected. There are bourbon notes throughout and the alcohol remains present. No hops to really speak of. Good stuff, just nothing that knocked me over.
