cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Sep 25, 2009 Bottle at home ... just missing the demonic rating 666 ... deep brown thin lacing ... sweet cherry toffee roast nose.. wow ... big fruit ... juicy plums and raisins ... lots of oak ... light coffee ... little bourbon ... rich rich deep flavour ... patrickfannon (273), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 18, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark, dense brown with a frothy, pungent off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and spice. Full body, with a crisp, clean aftertaste. All around decent strong ale. wildbillvms (36), , Illinois, USA Sep 17, 2009 This is (Hands Down) the BEST High Gravity brew I ever tasted ! It doesn’t have to be 1/2 frozen to choke it down...
It’s a dark colored brew - like a stout - Smooth as Guinness with a lot more kick !
More drinkability than Bud light !
Only one bad thing to note about this brew == The price== I guess oak Aging has a price???
Definitely try this brew - I recommend it !
A+++ Pipper (226), Ohio, USA Sep 16, 2009 Poured into pint from bomber. Oily dark brown/black pour. Slight tan head. Aroma WHOA: coffee, dark fruit/chocolate and kind of skunky. I’m not a fan of the flavor - did I get an infected bottle? The abv warms on its way down but that doesn’t make up for the flavor. I guess I should have figured it out after the inside of the cap said "why". PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Sep 15, 2009 Bottle: Pours a deep brown with a rusty copper hue and a dense tan film of head. Toasted oaky aroma with some mildly sweet raisin notes and soft milk chocolate. Silky palate. The flavor displays some toasted malts that mesh with soft bourbon/boozy notes giving it a soft sweetness of toasted marshmallows. Tannic woody notes in the mild toasted plum middle. A decent oak aged ale that remains fairly balanced and not overly boozy. Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Sep 14, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a deep brown body with a reddish tint to it. Finger-width, tan, creamy head that dissipates quickly and leaves a good amount of streaky lacing. Aroma is really enjoyable and way better than I was anticipating. Lots going on here, but led by a vast amount of fat malts. Very rich chocolate, bourbon prunes/dates/figs, woody roasts, dense toffees, molasses, and a light milky vanilla. Flavor is thick up front with some nice, subtle flavors as well. Rich and fat caramels, toffees, and chocolate malts up front before some molasses, vanilla bean coffee, and a light bourbon wood comes in. More prunes, dates, and raisin as well as some smoke, rich malty chocolate-toffee, bourbon-wood in the finish. Dry after a full and creamy body with a long aftertaste of dry roasts/light smoke, rich toffees and chocolate, and a pruney/vanilla bourbon wood. Overall, a really rich and sweet stong ale. Lots of chocolate and rich toffees, but a nice balance of fruits, smoke, and a touch of bourbon wood. It may seem jumbled at times, but I’m really enjoying the richness of this right now. Very tasty. Pookie9121 (81), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Sep 13, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours a beautiful dark color. Smells of malt and vanilla. Tasted of oak, vanilla, malt and many other flavors. Great beer. Recommended. awiseman01 (318), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Sep 11, 2009 Dan’s Bachelor Party Extended Weekend Rating #65 of 90. On tap at New Holland in Holland, MI. Pours black with ruby edge. Lost of coffee, toffee, caramel and bourbon. This was my hands down favorite from NH. Very good!
