Mar 23, 2008 Wow! This beer tickled my fancy. At $16 bucks for a 22oz? I was not dissappointed. Poured a Deep Black with a light foamy, rapidly dissipating head. I definitley got a touch of wood on the aroma and a very light sambuca like licorice/anise aroma. Upon tasting it I was surprised how the aroma of the oak and licorice mellowed into a black tart cherry mixed with coffee and a hint of bakers chocolate, light smokiness but almost not worth mentioning. This beer was completely delicious, a real treat.

Mar 22, 2008 Pours a dark cherry-black with almost no head whatsoever, similarly absent lacing. Notes of oak, chocolate, vanilla sweetness on the nose. Bourbon warmth on the somewhat thin palate, hints of tart berries, charcoal smokiness, wooden hop profile. Finishes slightly minty, with a bitter chocolate character. Not what I was expecting or hoping for, but still nice in its own right.

Mar 22, 2008 A dark Malty brew with noticeable alcohol contend. Nice carbonation. Small light brown head. Aroma, sweet and malty. Fruity malty and sweet taste. A really delightful brew.

Mar 20, 2008 Bottle. Dark, near black with some redness in the light. Not much visible carbonation, just some big soapy bubbles. Very smokey aroma. Some nuts, chocolate powder. Similar flavors of smoke, chocolate, and some bourbon. Sticky in the mouth. Definitely a unique beer, and outside of the appearance, it’s wonderful stuff.

Mar 17, 2008 wow, wow, wow. the perfection of the dark ale. rich bold flavor of a stout, with the bitternessoftened with incredible vanilla, and enriched with oak. mixed in this complex bew are hues of coffe, and hopps. this is an awesome brew, so rich, enjoyable and easy drinking. i plan to stock this brew as much as i can get.

Mar 14, 2008 On tap at Town Hall. Small glass appears black with brown highlights with a small sustaining head. The aroma is malty and woody. The flavor is solid sweet malt with a yeast component, wood, vanilla, and peat to keep it balanced. The body is super smooth. This is awesome.

Mar 8, 2008 On tap at Map Room. Nice flavor, but overwhelmed by the alcohol. I just couldn’t enjoy this beer-- I wish they could hide the alcohol a touch more to let the beer flavors come through.

Mar 8, 2008 great english strong. beautiful pour of dark molasses and an opaque white head. notes of vanilla and oak. kind of like a bourbon in a beer. good for an old kentucky boy. nice weight for a strong ale, plays like a well brewed cafe on the tongue. really good.
