tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Feb 7, 2008 Dark Coca-Cola brown with a bit of beige head. Wonderful nose of toffee and chocolate. Lots of toffee. Some dried fruit, nuts, and trail mix aromas going on. The flavor is also a wonderful blend of chocolate cover toffee bits and dates or prunes. Medium body. Silky mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. Balanced finish. This is a really wonderfull beer that should be on you want list. brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Feb 7, 2008 Pours mostly opaque, but when held directly to light, a luminous dark ruby sheen becomes apparent. A good inch of off-white froth welled up to the brim, and receded slowly to a partial skim-coat on the surface. Lacework aplenty.
Aromatics are nice blend of caramel, roasted malts, bourbon, and oak. Vanilla follows through with some warming alcohol.
The mouthfeel is medium and creamy. Pretty smooth and somewhat lush.
The pallet has a great balance of chocolate, caramel, nougat, bourbon, oaky tannins, and vanilla. Nicely melded with not one of the layers overbearing the others.
Finishes with a hint of residuals and warming bourbon and vanilla.
Not the biggest, baddest dark beer on the planet, but impeccably balanced and highly drinkable.
A "session" barrel aged beer. True that.
SlayerofBeers (8), Lakewood, Ohio, USA does not count Jan 31, 2008 I quite enjoyed this beer. It is paired well with many different foods, but would go perfectly with a nice blackened steak. The beer pours a fine dark brown almost black, with subtle ruby hues. The aroma is that of vanilla and bourbon, with slight toasted brown sugar hints. A slight tan head disappears quickly and leaves way to a wonderfully smooth palate feel. With a small amount of carbonation, and a silky texture this beer is wonderful for sipping. A nice nose of toasted oak and malt comes through at first, leaving a great end of brown sugar and slight bourbon flavors. michael-pollack (2603), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 30, 2008 22oz. Bottle: Aroma of malts, roasting, chocolate, bourbon, and oak. Poured very dark brown in color with a small tan head that diminished quickly. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of roasted malts, cream, chocolate, coffee, dark malts, oak, and salt. Medium body. Thinish dry texture. Soft carbonation. Sweet, dry, malty finish. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jan 27, 2008 Thanks jtw. Pours a deep black with a slight red hue. Roasted malt and chocolate flavors. Fruity aroma of plum and slight leather. Some brandy like smells as well. Slight hop bitterness on the finish. Pretty good. Could have a little more malt complexity. I didn’t realize this was oak aged. Those flavors come through but do not overpower the experience. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA Jan 23, 2008 22oz Bomber

Dragon’s Milk pours dark chocolate into my goblet. Deep ruby hues light up the glass when backlit. A one+ finger dirty white head grew one the pour before falling to a thick ring and skimming. Good looking beer.
While the aroma is without a doubt good it just seems a little too subdued for such a beer. The most pronounced aromas are from the barrel aging although they’re subtle as well. Bourbon whiskey, oak, and a touch of vanilla. There’s an intermingling of molasses and scorched brown sugar.
The flavor starts off sweet upfront with the vanilla coming through but is quickly subdued by a smorgasbord of flavors. Oak and borbon take over the vanilla before being joined by molasses and that lightly scorched brown sugar. The barrel aging is spot on. Any more would have created an overpowering borbon flavor and any less just wouldn’t have stood up.
The mouthfeel, while being on the lighter side of heavy, fits the flavor profile really well. The lack of carbonation lets this beer gracefully glide through and thecarbonation that is there creates a creaminess that’s perfectly appropriate. Enouh alcohol present to give the cheeks that warming sensation.
Dragon’s Milk is surely as sipper but one that goes down incredibly easy. A perfect nightcap on a cool evening.
It’s nice to find a high quality barrel aged beer that’s, although a seasonal, readily available and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to acquire. Keep pumping out the Dragon’s Milk New Holland.
1/6/08 mixinnixon2000 (227), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 23, 2008 bottle. pours brownish red in color. has nice flavors of vanilla and chocolate. I taste a hint of burbon kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Jan 16, 2008 Deep brown/ruby red color, good sized brownish head with some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, toffee, chocolate, vanilla and dates. Flavor is more fruity and the bourbon is not overshadowed. Big body, creamy texture. Somewhat short sweet finish. I didn’t know what to expect when I bought this beer and was pleasantly surprised.
