The aroma is sweet, shows some caramel, bourbon, and smoky notes. The flavor is very rich, shows alcohol, caramel, bourbon, smoke. The palate is of a pretty average consistency, dry, and has low carbonation. Overall a fairly rich and enjoyable brew. Beerman6686 (1263), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 10, 2007 Although im not a big fan of anything that is aged in bourbon barrels, this was delightful. Not too much bourbon taste, just enough to add to the other great flavors of this beer. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Oct 10, 2007 Deep dark brown in colour, almost completely opaque. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and some light sweetness and spices. Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavours lasting a long time with a lactic quality and a bit of nuts prevailing. Aftertaste shows the standard qualities - coffee, chocolate and dark cherries. Overall, a good heavy porter - I don’t really think this should be an English Strong...but that’s just me. Regardless, it is worth trying! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Binny’s Downtown in Chicago, Il on 08-October-2007. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 8, 2007 Bottle. My experience with New Holland is limited, and this beer didn’t wow me. Malty and a little bready, flat finish. Oily in the mouth. Drinkable, but not outstanding. Caramel. SkyinBrian (429), Collinsville, Illinois, USA Oct 8, 2007 pours dark black. taste is roasty, but not quite enough to be mistaken as a stout. very smooth for a 9% beer wonderfully flavor, you can really tell this was aged on wood. a very interesting beer. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 1, 2007 This black ale poured with a decent caramel head and a malty aroma. There is a very creamy chocolate malt flavor with a chalky finish. Quite delicious. TheCheeseMan (538), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Sep 30, 2007 Murky dark brown when poured. Roasted malts and dark fruits dominate the aroma, yielding a bit to some wood, vanilla and brwn sugar. Flavor is a touch on the sweet side, but there is a slight smokiness that keeps the whole affair a bit vibrant. Interesting.
