cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 22, 2007 On tap at the Vintage Estates, thanks Nuts. Beautiful black pour, looks dee-lish wth its chocolate mousse head. Aroma is malty milky and easy going, seems very friendly and mouth watering. As far as the taste goes you’d never know this is 9%, no way. Rather strong and smooth but yet is easy to palate. Some mild creamy carbonation is apparent. Not quite as oppressive as an imp stout, but this is approaching the style. Finish is rather alky overall tho it is well controlled with personality. lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA Sep 19, 2007 100th Rating! Yum Yum Yum! Loved the taste here, and aroma. More chocolate than coffee i think, with a thick finish. Love that it just lingers on the tongue. Hardly any alcohol taste in it. Great Great brew. Cheers! Optigon (561), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Sep 16, 2007 Pours black, with a fine, white head. Aroma is coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel is thickish with flavors of chocolate, coffee, nuts, and bourbon. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Sep 16, 2007 Poured a dark chestnut brown, with a reddish tint, and a tan ring of carbonation lacing the sides of the glass. Aroma was rather porter-like, with roasted malts predominating. Flavor was similar to the aroma, with roasted malts at the beginning of the sip, followed by strong wood flavors and tanginess. Finishes creamy, with a touch of dry fruit. Very smooth. jackson220 (136), new lenox, Illinois, USA Sep 11, 2007 on tap at galway tribes... Pours black, looks like cola. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 5, 2007 On tap at Mad Max Cranberry. Nice and different. Aroma of wine, wood and vanilla. Very complex. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a 2 finger tan head. Taste was vanilla, oak, coffee and chocolate with dark fruits and a strong alcohol burn. Very nice. I haven’t seen this in a bottle, but hope to before they are done with it. Moleculeman (5), USA does not count Sep 4, 2007 Dark, opaque color; pours with a nice head. Smoky, malt aroma; you really pick up the notes from the wood barreling giving it an almost bourbon-like quality to the nose. The flavor is complex, there is a sweetness to it along with vanilla, coffee, chocolate, fruit, and almost a liqueur quality. You can taste the alcohol on the finish, but it is not at all unpleasant. All around an excellent dark beer and probably the best thing New Holland Brewery produces.
