chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 16, 2007 Molasses sweetness limits this but the oily soft water feel and oak, vanilla, dark fruit (plum, rasin?) notes are nice. Chocolate and coffee notes are not over done. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 16, 2007 Very dark chestnut, slight fizzy head, sporadic lacing. Tons of vanilla, pecan pie, caramel in the nose and flavour -- almost too much, making it not very balanced. Milky and thin, akin to chocolate Yoo Hoo. Slightly sourish aftertaste. Great tasting if over-the-top. Nephilium (541), Ohio, USA Aug 11, 2007 Starts with a nice aroma of coffee, chocolate, and a touch of oak. It pours a dark (almost black) color, with red visible when held up to a light with a moderate tan head. The flavor is a thick chocolate flavor, with hints of coffee and vanilla, with an oily texture. There is a touch of hop bitterness that hides in the back end, and blends amazingly well with the coffee and chocolate notes. The 9% ABV is amazingly well hidden. This is a very tasty beer, and one that I could sip most nights. ford9719 (369), Vilseck, Germany Aug 5, 2007 22oz. bottle. Poured a very dark almost oily color. Aroma is tangy and sweet. Taste is smooth with a bit of coffe at the end. taffurs888 (121), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 3, 2007 Wow, is this an impressive beer. Smell of whiskey and vanilla. Taste is unbelievably smooth with chocholate malt flavor mixed in with oak and vanilla. donrajin (233), Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, USA Jul 31, 2007 This was a good beer, but for some reason it left me wanting a little more. It was a little light in flavor for what I was expectiing and could have use a little more head in the glass (none to speak of). This is common to style, but I would like to see a little more. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 29, 2007 Thanks to Boboski for the tasting. Pours out dark and foreboding, no head to speak of. Aroma is oak, winey merlot and chocolate malt. Taste has the same little hints of merlot and chocolate malt. A little sour in the aftertaste that kind of turned me off. Very strange. AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 28, 2007 Growler from Party Town.
Pours a dark brown with no head and no lacing. A little red hue around the edges. Roasted malts and some oak coming through in the nose. More of the same in the taste, but the effects of the barrel aging really round out this beer well. I didn’t get as much of the bourbon in the draft version as I have previously from the bottle. A very easy and smooth drinking beer which is a problem given the 9% ABV. Very enjoyable.
