cbkschubert (1945), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA Dec 15, 2006 22 oz. bottle via trade with kokostephi - Pours a brown color with a two finger light tan head. Lots of lacing. Aroma is woody (oak) and chocolate. Flavor is much of the same. Very nice. A subtle, smooth, medium to full body beer. This beer was a very pleasant suprise. Thanks Stephi. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 15, 2006 Bottle shared with the gang at Decemberfest 2006 -- courtesy of mds. Pours a deep dark reddish-brown with a small diminishing off-white head. Aroma of bourbon, caramel malt and some faint coffee and chocolate, also a little lactic. Flavour follows the aroma along with some sourness. Medium bodied. This wasn’t what I was expecting at all based on the name of the beer and I must say I didn’t love it, too bourboney for my liking. I found it just O.K. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Dec 14, 2006 22 oz bottle - Pours very dark brown to black with a thin head. This beer smells much like a stout with roasted malt and some chocolate notes. There’s also a hint of vanilla. The flavor is dark roasted caramel malts with coffee and chocolate in there. Full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and a hint of hops providing balance, Dragon’s Milk goes down smoothly, the 9% abv buried under all that malt. Excellent beer. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Dec 10, 2006 Bottle @ Doug’s. Thanks to Mike. Deep brown, slight read shines through. Thin off-white head. Nose is burbon, vanilla, milk, alcohol. Flavor is burbon, chocolate, vanilla, lots of sweetnes.. Neat color, deep brown, dark mahogany hue, tanned head and decent lacing.
Brown chocolate malts, pleasant fruity aromas. Reminds me of lightly sweetened Balk Forrest cake with hints of alcohol.
Medium bodied, perhaps a bit on thin side. Slightly creamy with bitter chocolate finish. Shallow image of aroma, Nose was so much richer and promising.(6+)
punkrkr27 (606), Berkley, Michigan, USA Dec 9, 2006 Very dark brown pour with a small, foamy, tan head. Strong aroma of oak and caramel malts with a slight sour note, some dark fruit and a bit of breadines. Strong initial oak flavor, roasted caramel malt, and dark fruit. There’s a bit of sour character that must come from some spontaneous fermentation in the barrels. Wonderfully complex flavor. There’s so many different flavors popping out at different times. Velvety smooth, full body. Truly one of my favorites. A great beer to sip on a cold winter day. WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 9, 2006 First bottle dead flat. Second bottle a little better. No head on top of a strikingly black body. Full and rich in the mouth, but again dead. Nose of malts and berries. Taste of dark malts, coffee, and sweet fruit. But after two dead bottles I’m giving up on this one. SoLan (1369), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 3, 2006 Black. Huge, dense, explosive tan cap. Unexpected. Infection? Nose - roasty malt, vinous - almost vinegar, dried dark fruit, vanilla, subtle oak, growing bourbon presence as it warms. Flavor- big vinegar twang, ripe dark fruits, chocolate, roasty malt, bourbon, oak, vanilla, wet wood, very light smokiness. Tangy, bitter, roasty aftertaste. Medium/full body, balanced. I can’t get passed the twang. Could be infected, oxidized, or both. The rest of the beer is very good, but taking a back seat. I’ll wait for room temperature. Almost there. Same flavors with much less vinegar. Much better at room temp.
