F it, i’m gonna do it. smell the barrel very dominant in the nose. bit of roast and a lot of booze too. tatstes like cheap whiskey at first, this better get better. roast and light coffee and cocoa linger in the oakey finish. damn that lady in the stands had a hell of an upper body, good job cameraman. roasted peanuts is what comes to mind once i get past that overbearing wood and booze flavor.once i adjust to this i can really start to pick out some enjoyable flavors. i think i’m going to rub the chicken with a green chile habanero dry rub, add the shrimp with a bit of leftoversalmon, bbq sauce and a bit of rice. need to get the rice going now i guess. well, rockies lose game 1. like the body in this though, just the right thick mouthfeel.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 8, 2009 Pours a very dark chestnut brown with mahogany edges when held to a light source and a 1.5 finger foamy tan head. Decent retention, slowly fading into a lasting ring that leaves spots of lacing behind.
Chocolate malt aroma with subtle bourbon, earthy oak and vanilla.
Lighter bodied tha I expected but not thin. Silky chocolate maltiness with hints of caramel and toffee. Not roasty at all. Surprising dark fruit notes including cherry, plum and raisin which provide a nice balance to the heavy malt presence. Subtle bourbon presence that isn’t overpowering, letting the other flavors shine through. Earthy oakiness with a nice touch of vanilla which adds to the smoothness of the beer. This in combination with the well masked ABV make this beer pretty quaffable. Slightly dry finish.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Draft @ Food Dance. Amazing smell of roasted malts, bourbon, oak, chocolate and roasted coffee. Touch of vanilla. Very balanced, developing aroma. Flavour of roasted malts, coffee, bourbon and vanilla. Bitter and fairly sweet finish. rags2rags (18), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 3, 2009 Bottle poured into pint class. The aroma is caramelly and alcoholic like a bourbon. It pours almost black with a nice tan head atop it. The flavor is sweet caramel, vanilla, sweet chocolate, and bourbon. It’s like a dessert in a bottle. It lingers a little heavy on the palate, like you ate a bowl of ice cream. Very good, but 22 ounces of the stuff is a bit heavy on the stomach. Almost too sweet; could use a little bitterness. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2009 Bottle: Pours a stunning dark brown with a finger of creamy tan head. Oak is the first part of the aroma, followed by sweet maltiness, vanilla, and bourbon. Tastes sweet with caramel and vanilla up front, finishing with a bourbon and oaked tail. Rich. Lingering bourbon is really sticking to my tongue... vikingguy (149), Chaska, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Pours a deep black. Light barely comes through even when held right up to a lamp. Fragrant...roasted malt and vanilla. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, dark chocolate, burnt toast, a little alchohol, but well hidden for the most part. Heavy mouthfeel, a little bite on the front end leads to a pleasant creamy texture. Long roasted malt and coffee finish. Gets sweeter as it warms, more milk chocolate notes. Best stout I’ve had. Great winter warmer. matthewjk (70), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

I couldn’t even find this at a local specialty shop. Interesting combination of malts, hops, and what taste like coconut. As described by brewer, the hints of bourbon do add a nice touch. Overall, I’m not a huge fan, but definitely worth drinking. RoscoeJackson (36), Michigan, USA
