Commercial Description:
Dragon’s Milk is a 17th century term used to describe the strong beer usually reserved for royalty. This strong ale was aged in oak for over 120 days. The aging process extracts flavors from the wood, which contribute to its complex character. Hints of bourbon flavor perfectly compliment its roasted malts to produce a beer fit for a King.

On tap at Mad Max Cranberry. Nice and different. Aroma of wine, wood and vanilla. Very complex. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a 2 finger tan head. Taste was vanilla, oak, coffee and chocolate with dark fruits and a strong alcohol burn. Very nice. I haven’t seen this in a bottle, but hope to before they are done with it.

650 ml that says 8.5% abv (not 9). Nearly opaque chocolate with a quarter-inch head that fades to a lasting spit of a halo. Aroma of figs, caramel, and chocolate bread pudding. Complex flavors of earthy caramel, chocolate, smoke, vanilla, charred wood, raisins, oak, whiskey, a hint of bitter and metallic herb, slight acidic sourness and portwine. Medium-heavy body is smooth, dry, slightly tingly, and just watery enough to be dangerously drinkable.

Bottle. Many thanks to Eyedrinkale for this treat. Pours dark brown and opaque with slight reddish highlights and a rich tan head.. Aroma is very sweet, milky, dark dried fruits, perfume and woody notes from the oak aging. Flavor is also sweet, almost like prune and raisin juice with bourbon and vanilla, finishing with a light alcohol burn. Mouthfeel is full and round with a very gentle carbonation. Very nice!

Strong bourbon notes, toffee/caramel, very sweet---maybe even cloying---but very interesting...more as an occasional winter warmer than a frequent beer of choice. Like this brewer’s experimental style.

Pour is a dark black with a tan head. Aroma is deffinatly chocolate with a nice woody smell. Flavor is again chocolate with a touch of coffee and some vanilla in there. Almost has a chocolate milk like texture on the tounge. Alcohol is hidden well as there was no burn as it went down. Kind of pricey but very tasty.

HOLY $HIT!!! I just poured this into my glass and instantly got a glass full of head. Maybe 1 inch of brew to 4 inches of head. Seems to be a little overcarbonated to me. There was a great big pssst when I popped the cap also. Well, a huge head of rather large bubbles. Milky light brown in color. Very nice aroma. Lots of malts, a little vinuous notes in the background, some vanilla, spices, milk chocolate and lactose. A slight hint of oaky sourness also. Color is a dark chocolaty brown. Complex flavor. Roasted malts, hint of smoke, oaky sourness and some more grapes. A little dry and tart on the palate. Finish is sharp and dry with some lingering sourness (light) and a nice alcohol warming. Very good stuff. I did not know what to expect with this brew. I actually thought that is was a stout before I opened the bottle. Thanks to whoever sent me this one.

Looks and smells the part, let me assure you. I wanted to like this - the head formation is a tad lively for an English Strong, but the color and consistency seem just right. Mmmmm, smell: oak, leather and earth and a tiny bit winey - great. Taste - wow. I really really want to like this. I do. It does have some woody, earthy elements, but this has to be the most sacharine, or otherwise artificial flavor I've had in a beer in quite some time. I really think New Holland is less than they think they are. Call me almost consistently underwhelmed - unfortunately. Please look at the discrepancy between flavor and other aspects. TAR says artificial sweetner and that's the bulk of what is here for me.

Dark, opaque body with tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee. Bitter flavor. Not bad.
