| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 14, 2006 From a 22 oz. brown bomber bottle with a blurb about the ale on the back of bottle and no freshness date. Made a good appearance, poured a opaque dark Coke Cola brown with a large pale tan foamy, cake-like head and a good deal of ringed sticking. For a strong ale, had largely a clean aroma, an oak woodiness, a whiskey-ness and a sweet alcohol aroma. Good carbonation and a sweet, alcoholic medium bodied mouth feel, good sipping drinkability. Had a good oak barrel taste, a nice, smooth dry fruity hoppy bitterness, an pleasant alcoholic bite on the tongue, and a dry hoppy, sweet bitterness in the finish.

Sweet aroma of butterscotch and caramel. Very sweet taste of more of the same, some roasted malts along the way. A little sticky but overall I liked this one. hellbilly (1566), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 23, 2008 the first bottle i had of this was terribly infected and very sour. this, on the other hand is incredible. it reminds me of an imperial porter... but not.
pours a very dark burgundy brown. the head is tan but minimal and manages to leave some spotty lace on the glass in it*s short time on this planet. vaya con dios, my friend!
aromas of vanilla cream, coffee, roasty grains, chocolate and brown sugar fill my nose. as it hits nearly room temperature, the bourbon-y/spicy/woody characters really start to come in to play.
the flavor is much like the aroma... lots of roast/malt powdery goodness, coffee, milky chocolate, caramel, vanilla and faint barrel/earthy notes with a spicy kick on the finish. coffee really hangs on in the aftertaste as the belly gets nice and warm from the booze. extremely "well" bodied but seemingly light for how much flavor it packs in. it*s not sticky as it has a pleasant acidity and spiciness to cut through the richness...
i must have been drinking a lot of craptacular beer lately because i actually had to stop what i was doing to enjoy this...

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 1, 2005 Bottle Pours a dark brown/black with a small light borwn head and faint/sparce lacing. Wonderfull aroma of old barrels and sweet vanilla. The flavors however I though were dry, sour and acidic. Some of the barrel aged characteristics were prominant as well. My thoughts were that this might make a good marinade for my next steak. A dry tart finish. Thanks Mr Facto for this one. MrBunn (1559), Western, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a little bit of tan head. Aromas are weak... earth, peat, toffee, wet leaves, vanilla. Flavor is very good... vanilla and toffee are the main draws, with a little bit of a peat and dark fruit edge to it. This is pretty good.
