Strawberry preserves, prunes and fudge brownies. Brown sugar in the back. Quite the nose. Soft and syrupy with apple jack tang. Taste moves from cocoa to coconut to vanilla. As sweetness fades coffee, oak and bourbon emerge. A bit hot but very good. Would love to get another to age. Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2002 Dark, dark garnet, almost black, with a thin, persistent head. This beer is creamy and smooth, with notes of malt, chocolate, milk, dark fruit, vanilla, oak, bourbon, and hints of both coffee and anise. Perhaps the most aptly titled name for a beer. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Mar 27, 2007 Pours a dark amber brown color w/ a full, semi ceamy froth. Full residual lacing w/ a silky canopy. Aroma of chocolate milk. Full nectar w/ soft and creamy residual effers. Very luciuos. A huge malty backbone consecrates the complex marriage of chocolate cakebread, vanilla cream, bourbon, and a spicey oak bitterness. Deeply seared into the psyche of this behemoth is a subtle hopsy bitteress that balances it out. The sweetness factor is mild to moderate but totally enjoyable. This truely is dragons milk. Smooth and lucious. The finish is long and enduring w/ a mild bittering component that seems to stick around. Highly recommended. dchmela (1440), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 29, 2007 Thanks to Boboski for the tasting. Pours out dark and foreboding, no head to speak of. Aroma is oak, winey merlot and chocolate malt. Taste has the same little hints of merlot and chocolate malt. A little sour in the aftertaste that kind of turned me off. Very strange. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Sep 25, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark mahogany with a sparse beige head that quickly disappeared. Aroma of oak vanilla and chocolate. Flavor was chocolate, sweet malt and oak. Body was too weak for this beer, but otherwise it is a masterpiece. OldGrowth (1426), North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 19, 2006 Bottle from trade with... Hmmm. snotiger or captaincougar perhaps? Damn me not keeping better notes. Has Dilly Deli price label. Ok nose, sweet. perfumy. Dairy, chocolate, fruity yeasty, little scotchy. Clean dark reddish brown, ok head that faded quickly, left ring and good lacing. Bitter flavor, like aroma. Little more grape to it. Thick body, creamy oily mouthfeel, bitter finish. Definately a great brew, now if I could only remember who I got it from... adrian910ss (1424), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
