Commercial Description:
Dragon’s Milk is a 17th century term used to describe the strong beer usually reserved for royalty. This strong ale was aged in oak for over 120 days. The aging process extracts flavors from the wood, which contribute to its complex character. Hints of bourbon flavor perfectly compliment its roasted malts to produce a beer fit for a King.

22 oz bomber. Pours a black cola color with a medium white leaning on beige head. Aroma is of oaked bourbon, vanilla and sweet malts. Taste is slightly bourbony with hints of vanilla, malts and toffee. Nicely done. As dark as a stout, but lacking stout taste.

Bottle from trade with... Hmmm. snotiger or captaincougar perhaps? Damn me not keeping better notes. Has Dilly Deli price label. Ok nose, sweet. perfumy. Dairy, chocolate, fruity yeasty, little scotchy. Clean dark reddish brown, ok head that faded quickly, left ring and good lacing. Bitter flavor, like aroma. Little more grape to it. Thick body, creamy oily mouthfeel, bitter finish. Definately a great brew, now if I could only remember who I got it from...

This is an odd cat that takes some time to figure out as the flavors develop across the tongue. The first thing that hits me is a sweet, sour, and alcohol sensation reminiscent of whiskey or bourbon (probably the oak barrels), followed by a complex woody conglomeration of esters, coffee, dark chocolates, dust/brut champagne, and slight alcohol. The lingering flavor is coffee and esters.

Bottle. Poured a dark mahogany with a sparse beige head that quickly disappeared. Aroma of oak vanilla and chocolate. Flavor was chocolate, sweet malt and oak. Body was too weak for this beer, but otherwise it is a masterpiece.

Black. Huge, dense, explosive tan cap. Unexpected. Infection? Nose - roasty malt, vinous - almost vinegar, dried dark fruit, vanilla, subtle oak, growing bourbon presence as it warms. Flavor- big vinegar twang, ripe dark fruits, chocolate, roasty malt, bourbon, oak, vanilla, wet wood, very light smokiness. Tangy, bitter, roasty aftertaste. Medium/full body, balanced. I can’t get passed the twang. Could be infected, oxidized, or both. The rest of the beer is very good, but taking a back seat. I’ll wait for room temperature. Almost there. Same flavors with much less vinegar. Much better at room temp.

Draft @ Food Dance. Amazing smell of roasted malts, bourbon, oak, chocolate and roasted coffee. Touch of vanilla. Very balanced, developing aroma. Flavour of roasted malts, coffee, bourbon and vanilla. Bitter and fairly sweet finish.

12 oz bottle, 2002 version (fresh): Dark Brown, hints of burnt orange. Small lingering milky brown head. Burboun, soy sauce aroma, with copious amounts of caramel and perhaps some chocolate. Spicy, fruity, milky. Wonderful clean finish, unique and great brew. 8/4/8/5/17

12 oz bottle, 2005 version (fresh): opaque dragon’s blood – like charred black cheery juice. Creamy off-tan head, diminishing into a thin ring. Soy milk aroma with melted Baker’s chocolate, charred cedar and a hint of coconut…intensely creamy/milky palate – light bitterness and hints of wood and earth. The flavour profile doesn’t seem to be as deep as I remember, but the mouth feel is right on, perhaps a testament of the oak aging…but this one missing the fruit and sweetness of that I remember the first version. 7/4/7/5/16

22 oz bottle. Pour dark, rich brown with a thin creamy withe head. Nose of sweet, roasted malt. Chocolate... both dark and milk. Bit of vanilla and dark cherries. Loads of roasted malt on the palate. Bourbon alcohol flavor comes slowly but is present. A tad leathery. Notes of vanilla and lactose. Fairly lush and silky mouthfeel.
