Small lingering milky brown head. Burboun, soy sauce aroma, with copious amounts of caramel and perhaps some chocolate. Spicy, fruity, milky. Wonderful clean finish, unique and great brew. 8/4/8/5/17
12 oz bottle, 2005 version (fresh): opaque dragon’s blood – like charred black cheery juice. Creamy off-tan head, diminishing into a thin ring. Soy milk aroma with melted Baker’s chocolate, charred cedar and a hint of coconut…intensely creamy/milky palate – light bitterness and hints of wood and earth. The flavour profile doesn’t seem to be as deep as I remember, but the mouth feel is right on, perhaps a testament of the oak aging…but this one missing the fruit and sweetness of that I remember the first version. 7/4/7/5/16 tytoanderso (1387), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA

Nose of sweet, roasted malt. Chocolate... both dark and milk. Bit of vanilla and dark cherries. Loads of roasted malt on the palate. Bourbon alcohol flavor comes slowly but is present. A tad leathery. Notes of vanilla and lactose. Fairly lush and silky mouthfeel. DragonStout (1386), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 23, 2004 Soft chocolate bourbon aroma, first couple sips were pretty much roasted malt and bourbon, a little chocolate sweetness as it warmed. Seemed overcarbonated and served way too cold. Nice enough, but not a distintive as some of New Holland’s other brews Stine (1381), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 22, 2007 Pours to a thin reddish black with a brownish shaded head. Oaky bourbon aroma... Nutella on wheat bread. Roasted rye flavors, a flood of bourbon and what a dusty guitar string might taste like. Bourbon takes over in a serious way as the temperature rises. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 30, 2008 Pours a dark brown color with a very thin head. Mostly just film. Some bourbon in the aroma but it really just sits on top of what is essentially a strong porter with loads of roasty malt. All I get from the flavor are generic strong porter notes with just enough bourbon and oak to make this beer stand out a step from the crowd. Perfectly adequate. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 28, 2008 Pours deep brown with a few large bubbles, light tan in color. The nose is roasted grain. The flavor is a bit more of coffee, but overly roasted grain and corn present. A touch of oak as well. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Light chocolatey lacquor-covered oak aroma.
Very sour lactic-like taste. Too sour for me. Charcoaled oak and some stemmy hops.
