Commercial Description:
Dragon’s Milk is a 17th century term used to describe the strong beer usually reserved for royalty. This strong ale was aged in oak for over 120 days. The aging process extracts flavors from the wood, which contribute to its complex character. Hints of bourbon flavor perfectly compliment its roasted malts to produce a beer fit for a King.

First bottle dead flat. Second bottle a little better. No head on top of a strikingly black body. Full and rich in the mouth, but again dead. Nose of malts and berries. Taste of dark malts, coffee, and sweet fruit. But after two dead bottles I’m giving up on this one.

Holy Moley. This was a disappointment. I got suckered in by the name. I like New Holland, but sometimes, they just suck. Here is one example. Stick to the hops, guys.

Bottle sample at the Green Flash/New Holland tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 7.23.09. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Nice aroma of vanilla and chocolate and honey sweetness. Oaky vanilla flavor up front with some chocolate and alchol. Smells like a stout, but doesn’t quite taste as roasty. Aroma was definitely better, but still a decent overall beer.

Was unsure what to expect from this beer, and it surprised me upon the pour for two reasons: 1) it was much darker than expected, and 2) it had almost no head. First had a few huge bubbles and then it kind of fizzed when coaxed, but disappointed by the carbonation. Nose of vanilla, oak, soy sauce, bitter chocolate. Taste added more malt and caramel to the flavors on the nose. A little cloyingly sweet at first but a lovely aftertaste, with more coffee/chocolate coming out. Would rate higher if not so sweet.

Aroma is of raisins, Bourbon, dark fruits, maple syrup, and brown sugar. Thin tan head with medium amber body, Flavor doesn’t match the aroma but isnt bad. immediately it tastes creamy and warm with brown sugar, butter or butterscotch and some sort of yellow cherry flavors. Overall decent and points for not being boring and bland.

22oz bottle thanks to Pailhead: Pours to an opaque brown with some redish highlights when held to the light. Atop sits a gigantic light brown head that lasts with some nice lacing. The aroma is light roast, spices, light citrus, oak. The taste is slightly acidic, with some chocolate, oak, raspberry, spicy oak, cherry, citrus, light floral hops. Medium bodied, medium carbonated, finishes with some acidic roasted notes.
