| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 19, 2009 I have no idea how this is different from the oak aged Dragons Milk since this is oak aged. Anyway, 12oz bottle, high gravity series, 19°P & 8.5%ABV. Served in my New Holand flared pint glass. Indra was right, this is some tasty stuff. I forget how the nose started out, but it is now like a rum cake/banana bread with some cinnamon on top, maybe a bit of chocolate. There is some hot alcohol at the end, but just enough to let you know it is a big beer. Thick, viscous body with a clean, albiet somewhat "hot" finish. Every big as thick as a big Impy stout. The barrel cleans up the huge mess of sweetness and the sweetness, in turn, keeps the oak barrel from taking over. This really is a nice beer. I hope that I don’t revisit it and find it a lesser beer once the effects of tonights intoxicants, a great meal, a fair amount of red wine and some hoppy beers, wear off. Good shit. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 16, 2008 Deep brown/ruby red color, good sized brownish head with some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, toffee, chocolate, vanilla and dates. Flavor is more fruity and the bourbon is not overshadowed. Big body, creamy texture. Somewhat short sweet finish. I didn’t know what to expect when I bought this beer and was pleasantly surprised. barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 23, 2005 bottle. poured a reddish brown with a quickly fading tan head. some lace chases its way down the side of the glass. I love the bourbon, oak aged flavor, but in this beer the malt and hops are barely present and the balance seems a bit off. kind of sweet and easy to drink, hard to believe the abv is 10.5%. all in all, a nice brew! kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2004 On Tap @ Buckeye Brewing: Small light brown head on a hazy chestnut brown body. Head doesn’t last, but laces well. Caramel, nutty, chocolate and toasty malts w/ a pronounced roasty character. Not coffee, but roasty. Light doughy yeast and some raisiny dark fruit, but very light, and some alcohol. Flavor is well balanced and toasted cereal flavor. Roasty, light chocolate, some wood and vanilla flavors. Bourbon is not noticeable until it warms. Sweeter finish, aftertaste is roasty and lightly tart from grain acidity. Medium body, creamy texture, low medium carbonation, and smooth. This beer grows on you the more you drink. I wasn’t too keen on it at first, but as I was about 1/2 way through it, it became more complex and flavors melded together very well. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 4, 2008 22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. Weak pfftt when opened. Poured out a deep brown color, with red highlights around the edges. Weak, sticky head. Very little carbonation. Aromas are of oak barrels, burnt sugar, Grandma’s root cellar. Flavors are burnt sugar, dank basement, funky oak barrel. Medium mouthfeel, but thin body. OK to try...once. Frank (1066), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 2, 2005 Updated: May 24, 2005Interesting stuff. Really nice, dark brown with a white head and splotches of lace. Floral malty nose. Rather sweet, some dark fruit and, again, lots of floral notes. Slighlty tart, it actually tastes a bit aged. I like it but the sweetness cloys a little. rustychiles (1056), Mesa, Arizona, USA
