Commercial Description:
Dragon’s Milk is a 17th century term used to describe the strong beer usually reserved for royalty. This strong ale was aged in oak for over 120 days. The aging process extracts flavors from the wood, which contribute to its complex character. Hints of bourbon flavor perfectly compliment its roasted malts to produce a beer fit for a King.

Sampled at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits Wednesday evening beer tasting. Pours a semi-clear dark reddish brown brew with a thin beige head that slowly dissipates to a fine film and ring. Nice lacing on this brew. Aroma of roasted caramel malt, a touch of bourbon, butterscotch, raisins and dark chocolate. Taste is smooth, creamy with flavors of roasted dark malt, chocolate, a touch of bourbon and vanilla. Finish is slightly metallic texture with a dark chocolate and vanilla aftertaste. Though I got a slightly laugh out of the host explaining that this is a "fluffy beer" this fluffy strong ale turned out pretty good.

Bomber. Poured a clear, deep chestnut brown with a fizzy cap of beige head. Aroma began with an intriguing blend of soft bourbon and freshly-toasted oak... warm semi-sweet chocolate waves follow leaving offshoots of vanilla.. really enjoyed it. The flavor began with tingly bourbon and bitter herbal notes.. transitioning to grainy chocolate and vanilla on the sweet middle... warm bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, and oak round out the finish... tasty, but had a couple moments of artificial vanilla and some sharper points that detracted from the flow. Medium-bodied with a decent flow. This was some good stuff!

A sipper. Good amount of lace and deep chocolale brown. Thanks Dr. Jay. Carbonation on aggressive side. Taste: coriander, orange, like a grand cru with lots of nother complexity. On the edge of funky.

Bottle (650ml). Poured almost opaque deep chestnut, average creamy tan head. Lovely rich deep roast chocolate/caramel malt, yeasty and woody, soft hints of vanilla. Taste is initially a little metallic, which quickly resolves to a little sharp alcohol burn, then the sweet bourbon character rides with the chocolate malt to the forefront - lovely, smooth, rich and strong, this is good stuff! Decently thick body, creamy mouthfeel, the alcohol behaves itself in the finish, - this is a great malty medium-big beer and I’ll look for it again, the only knock is there’s that hint of metal in the taste.

Bottle @ Decemberfest.
Neat color, deep brown, dark mahogany hue, tanned head and decent lacing.
Brown chocolate malts, pleasant fruity aromas. Reminds me of lightly sweetened Balk Forrest cake with hints of alcohol.
Medium bodied, perhaps a bit on thin side. Slightly creamy with bitter chocolate finish. Shallow image of aroma, Nose was so much richer and promising.(6+)

Dark black color. Small white foamy head. Aroma is chocolate, berries, cola and coffee. Light to medium bodied Strong/Old Ale. A surprisingly intense berry flavor (blackberries and blueberries) is the first thing that you taste in this beer. The malts are chocolate and fruit, with touches of bubble gum and vanilla. Touch of hop spiciness. A very complex flavored beer, you will pick up different aspects with each sip. Very smooth tasting. Very soft and light carbonation. A nice sipping beer. No trace of the 10.5% alcohol. There are only slight hints of any oak barrel aging. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet. Thanks TAR!

2008-05-30. Dark brown body with a waifish tan head (3+). Boozy first impression, but the malty aroma shows some interesting nuances once you get past the alcohol. (7+) Sweetish flavour, caramel notes, mild malt throughout, very lightly astringent in the finish. (7+) Average bodied palate seems a touch light for it. Ok. This bottled brew poured a very large sized head of foamy finely sized brown colored long lasting bubbles that left behind an opaque black colored body with no visible carbonation. The aroma was smooth with dark malty milk stout like notes. The mouth feel was strongly tingly at the start and medium in its finish. The flavor was thin at the start but started to come on in the finish with a malt hop dark malt syrupy flavor.
