Commercial Description:
Dragon’s Milk is a 17th century term used to describe the strong beer usually reserved for royalty. This strong ale was aged in oak for over 120 days. The aging process extracts flavors from the wood, which contribute to its complex character. Hints of bourbon flavor perfectly compliment its roasted malts to produce a beer fit for a King.

picked up while in Michigan for the holidays while beer hunting... pours black. i’ll agree w/ the others... looks like cola. nose is slightly acidic... lemons, but with bourbon barrel notes... faint vanilla, but nice balance of oak, chocolate and caramel. Though the listing for this says 10.5% abv.. my bottle states 9%, and has silkscreened label. despite this difference, i think the alcohol presence is noticable.. but well balanced. somewhat like a bourbon and coke... faint alcohol taste, but slightly watered down. it’s nice. this beer is slightly bitter, but the ’darker’ flavors lead me to a resemblance that i could only compare as a ’ light porter’ i’m still picking up citrus notes... perhaps it’s from the charred oak.

On tap at Sheffield’s in Chicago. Dark brown with small head. Lots of vanilla and bourbon, but not overpowering at all. Loved it.

On tap at Oregon Brewers Festival 2008--Dark chestnut brown body w/ a rich bubbly tan head. Woody, malty, bourbon, caramel, and vanilla notes. Hoppy. Subtle yet bold. Great!

draft Pours black like austory said like cola. Head light tan light lacing. aroma is packe wiht vanilla, oak and toffee with chocolate overtones. Palate is suprisingly thin for a 10.5% beer. But its kind of nice to have it that way. Flavors has a nice roast malt feel up front with vanilla and hints of chocolate and toffee. nice Finish as well.

From a 22 oz. brown bomber bottle with a blurb about the ale on the back of bottle and no freshness date. Made a good appearance, poured a opaque dark Coke Cola brown with a large pale tan foamy, cake-like head and a good deal of ringed sticking. For a strong ale, had largely a clean aroma, an oak woodiness, a whiskey-ness and a sweet alcohol aroma. Good carbonation and a sweet, alcoholic medium bodied mouth feel, good sipping drinkability. Had a good oak barrel taste, a nice, smooth dry fruity hoppy bitterness, an pleasant alcoholic bite on the tongue, and a dry hoppy, sweet bitterness in the finish.

It has a mild coffee aroma to it, pleasing, and not overpowering. Also has a dark color, similar to coffee or cola, with little head. Pleasant mild coffee flavor to it, nice for a higher ABV beer. Medium body and texture. I liked this one quite a bit.

I thought it was time that I went back and re-rated this beer....one of the first I rated....and see how it if it was as good as I remember....turns out its a little better. Dark brown with a nice off white/tan head. aroma chocolate caramel vanilla oak bourbon with a hint of alcohol. sweet chocolate bittersweet caramel deep roasted malt flavors with slightly acidic notes. hints of vanilla oak and spicy black pepper. finish is sweet chocolate and vanilla at first but turns into a lovely medium dry spicy roasted caramelized malt......almost tannic flavor that sticks with you for quite some time. nice light smokey hints throughout. complex. nice. by far the best offering from this brewery. original rating 1/14/2006 8-4-7-3-15=3.7 dark brown in color with a light tan head. very nice aroma. vanilla, chocolate, toffee, and a bit of alcohol. the flavor doesn’t live up to the aroma. nice roasted malty flavor on the front and slightly acidic with a bitter chocolate finish. alcohol is present but nicely balanced.

22 oz bottle from Liquor Outlet. Brown in color with some ruby highlights, small lasting head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel/molasses, vanilla, and oak. Taste is smooth and malty, alot of molasses, touches of chocolate and tobacco, oak, vanilla and some well integrated whiskey. Some alcohol warm in the finish but very drinkable. Full bodied. Very nice.
