The nose was smoky barley, and the palate..ah, the palate. Hardwoods, coffee, licorice, smoke, vanilla toward the back of the tongue, and just a bit of butterscotch. Amazing. Poured a Deep Black with a light foamy, rapidly dissipating head. I definitley got a touch of wood on the aroma and a very light sambuca like licorice/anise aroma. Upon tasting it I was surprised how the aroma of the oak and licorice mellowed into a black tart cherry mixed with coffee and a hint of bakers chocolate, light smokiness but almost not worth mentioning. This beer was completely delicious, a real treat. Snoop59 (74), Penn Run, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 17, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep, dark brown with a creamy thin tan head that lasts throughout. Good lacing. The aroma has lots of sweet caramel and roasted malt with a hint of vanilla. Great bourbon aroma. Initial flavor is of bourbon followed by a malty sweetness with a nicely balanced bitterness. Roasted malt. Grassy hop flavor. Warming seems to accentuate the vanilla. Medium to heavy bodied. Finishes surprisingly dry. Truly an interesting stout. CptGreencoat (68), Kettering, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 7, 2008 Poured into a snifter glass with a small, tan head that didn’t last very long. Scents of bourbon and chocolate with hints of coffee in the background; a perfect blend. Chocolate and malt were at the foreground of the flavor while nuts and bourbon took the back seat. The taste stays with you for the rest of the night. Very smooth and lightly carbonated. I will be buying this again. wildbillvms (36), , Illinois, USA

It’s a dark colored brew - like a stout - Smooth as Guinness with a lot more kick !
More drinkability than Bud light !
Only one bad thing to note about this brew == The price== I guess oak Aging has a price???
Definitely try this brew - I recommend it !

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 18, 2009 A very good looking beer, purchased from Vintage Estate in Boardman, though we do get it here, it was a hell of a lot cheaper there. Pours a thin looking but very dark red, may look black without light. the head is frothy and resilient, an eggshell white.
Scent is of wood over roasted malt, chocolate. Very stouty, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Reminds me of a maltier Old Viscosity. Vanilla makes an appearance.
Taste actually reminds me of Old Vis as well. Can’t say thats a bad thing. Vanilla, wood, smoke, tobacco, roasty malt, chocolate. Very good brew, and goes down quite easy with a little warmth at the end. The mouth is somewhere in the middle in body, but damn the carbonation is just right. This is an excellent beer.
I will be buying some more of these. . drgnmstr0923 (3), Virginia, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 27, 2009 off the tap
