Commercial Description:
Dragon’s Milk is a 17th century term used to describe the strong beer usually reserved for royalty. This strong ale was aged in oak for over 120 days. The aging process extracts flavors from the wood, which contribute to its complex character. Hints of bourbon flavor perfectly compliment its roasted malts to produce a beer fit for a King.

Appearance: frightfully dark, deep plum color, with a generous, frothy, creamy, light tan head above, lace-leaving, slowly subsiding. Aroma: chocolate, cream, vanilla...interesting...buttery, with a whiskeyish tinge, as well. Taste: unusual, the vanilla lingers, a woody, chocolatey character dominates. Small hops, rich malt, and the 10% Abv is sneaky, not kicking into the flavor in the least. Oh, here it comes...fruitiness comes in toward the end, raisiny, plummy, ...such a nice little brew, a great buttress against this ridiculous sub-zero January chill. I’ve had this on-tap before, at the Autumn Brew Review lat fall, and wasn’t so charmed...this bottle changed my mind. Were I a Michiganite, Dragon’s Milk would have a coveted spot in the icebox.

GABF 2002: Red brown color. Malty whiskey aroma. Flat and raisiny. Sharp alcoholic finish, burns the tongue. A great warmer and sipper.

Very dark brown color, some head. Woody, sweet choclatey, caramel aroma. Some toffeeish, candy apple notes in the body. Some bitterness, but overall a shade to sweet for my liking. Better that the other fairly boring New Holland brews.

12 oz bottle. Dark maple-molasses with a thick tan meringue topping...intoxicating big vanilla/oaky nose with notes of butterscotch late, sensuous....vinous, oaky body with some sharp bits of sour cherry and grapefruit and quite a strongly acidic finish...bears more than a little resemblance to an amped-up Flemish Sour, and it works.

Wow. This is a huge, thick, malty beer redolent with the whiskey and fully fruity (yup, Inveigler, you nailed the plums - they are there as sticky and stinky as if they were just overipe and buzzing with late summer wasps). There is considerable power in this brew and it became too much for me.

Dark brown color, almost black; big head but reducing quickly. Nice aroma of caramel, mature, with some spices, and chocolate. Good body strength; it has a strong chocolate flavor, with some caramel and very light roasted malt, well compounded by a vanilla touch, very pleasant here; the bitterness comes almost exclusively from a late roasted malt, and in the final the alcohol warms the mouth. Quite good, the flavor presents a certain degree of complexity.

Dark color with a slight head. Bourbon in the nose and also in the body, providing a nice flavor. Mouthfeel is smooth and silky, with the sour, acidic notes evident. Very interesting beer. I actually really like it, but as listed previously by others there is something missing perhaps that prevents me from giving this beer a higher rating.

Pours dark brown with tanish offwhite head. Aroma is boozy toffee and butterscotch. Aroma is sweet caramel, white chocolate, bit of plums, and a nice boozy warmth undertone. Overall, very enjoyable.
