Cloves seem to be the sole element of the aroma other than perhaps a slight mustiness. Flavor is cloves up front with green apple, some floral hops, and a bit of biscuit. Also has a moderate alcohol presence. Fairly astringent on the tongue. I’d like some more complexity. LinusStick (1851), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 1, 2009 A typical sub par American attempt at a saison.Aroma was so so. Heavy mustiness with orange peel and corriander. Pour was a medium gold with no bubbles and a thin off white ring for a head. Taste went from a 4 to 6 as I drank it. Yeast, wet barnyard blanket and orange with spices coming out in the after taste. Not much carbonation and an intangible "American-ness" to it that detracts from what a saison should be. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 28, 2009 Pours a hazy golden color with a white head. Mild aroma of spices, yeast, grain, and some floral hops. Flavor is sweet at first from the lemon, grains, yeast, and spices. Finishes dry with more spice flavor. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 28, 2009 Pale golden ale with a light haze. For a saison, the head certainly does not beat longevity records despite the active carbonation. Gently spicy, yeasty though not loaded with yeast character nose where a strong cereal character emanates. I would not call it rustic, but it has a certain hay-like graininess with strong wheat component. Its heavier than most maltiness can’t help but bring more residual sugars than I like, but taking it as an American belgian ale rather than a saison where dryness is really important to me, I must reckon I enjoy its refreshing wheaty palate. Soft lemony hops do provide a zesty tang to the otherwise flowery, fruity finish. The initial mouthfeel feels almost crisp with its biting small-bubbled carbonation, but this fades away rather quickly, just like the head and then feels thicker and unfortunately less drinkable. Well, Americans tend to do overspiced and sweet saisons. I appreciate that they avoided this spicy mold. Taking it as a yeasty golden ale, NH Golden Cap enjoyable though its carbonation could be improved and yeast a bit more prominent. daknole (3025), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 28, 2009 Tap at the map room. Gold color with a white head. aroma is spicy, lemon, hay, earthy tones, hops and some malt. Flavor is quite disappointing. Light citrus and hops, light malts, not much funk. Not much of anything going on actually. Bummer. TheBeerGod (3171), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 26, 2009 Bottle. Hazy gold. Short white head. Aroma is floral hops, grains, Belgian yeast, spices and fruit notes. Taste echoes this with stronger, dusty yeast, big grain flavors, peppery spices, sweet malts, dried fruits, and some earthy flavors. Hop bitterness comes through here as well. Body is light and very bubbly. Ends with stronger bitter hops, dusty yeast notes, grains, dried fruit, malt and spices. Lots of lemon in the finish as well. mattmc1973 (313), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 24, 2009 12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a golden amber with frothy white head. Aroma of sweet malt, flowers, hay, citrus, and spices. Tastes like sweet malt, slightly sour, with nice lemony citrus flavor. Medium bodied with rich smooth mouthfeel, and crisp carbonation. Very quenching and delicious! Well done. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 24, 2009 Pour is a bright but cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is some dry malts with some yeast. Flavor is a bit of pepper at the start then follows a very mild citrus. Everything is kind of low key in this beer and nothing really stands out to put this one over the top. Still worth a try as this is my fav style.
