Commercial Description:
As the story goes, the charm of the Cap hails an otherwise mischievous band of winged-monkeys to carry out any three commands its owner wishes, such as carrying you from vast scarlet poppy fields to Emerald City, or even to the comfort of a country farmhouse. Golden Cap Saison however, brings the comfort to you with its modern interpretation of a traditional farmhouse ale. A soft, pale beer, Golden Cap accentuates the flavors and aromas of summer fields. Brewed with an ancestor to wheat called spelt, and bottle-conditioned; it's straw-colored body accentuated with lively carbonation and unique fermentation profile evoke fresh cut hay and cracked peppercorns. Ep-pe, pep-pe, kak-ke! Hil-lo, hol-lo, hel-lo! Ziz-zy, zuz-zy, zik!

Considering that this is New Holland, I was expecting the worst, but I am actually pleasantly surprised - pours a very hazy golden color - somewhat earthy, yeasty, phenolic and spicy in the nose, with notes of peach, apricot, wheat/grain - the taste is a wee bit sweet for a saison, but there are a lot of peppery notes, grassy/herbal hops, and a kind of flinty dryness at the end that do a pretty good job of balancing it out - through the middle of this, there are wildflower qualities, and quite a bit of peach flavor - lingering flowers and honey on the palate - pretty good, actually.

Had this one bottled, thank you Arnie! Straw, hazy yellow pour with a thin, wispy white head, a light, slightly grassy, slightly fruity nose, and a similarly light citrusy and fruity flavor. Slightly bitter finish. This style really doesn’t do much for me, but the beer itself wasn’t bad.

22 ounce bottle in Duvel glass. Very pale orange with ring head and a little lace. Mildly sugary fruity spicy aroma. Sweet melony fruitiness with mild spicy grassy finish. Medium body and carbo. Not bad.

12 oz bottle. Pours a pale yellow in color, with little head that rests around the edge of the glass. Fruity aroma. Taste of wheat and earthy flavors, also slight hops, and perhaps citrus in the aftertaste. The aftertaste leaves a hint of bitter on the tongue. This one Billy gifted to me in exchange of some Centennials I left with him.

Bottle at Mekong on 04/04/2009. Cloudy orange body with a medium frothy off-white head. Sweety fruity and earthy aroma with some faint spice. Sweet earthy and floral flavor with some hard to determine spices and a bit of orange. Medium body with high carbonation.

22 oz. bottle from Hiller’s market in Northville MI. Pours a a hazy straw yellow with medium fluffy head. I got this not really knowing the style. I just got it because I knew I liked New Holland stuff, and I had never seen this. Well, in true NH fashion, this stuff is great. It really reminds me of a traditional Belgian dubbel, or trippel, but more subtle. It’s slightly fruity, with a great finish. Cheers!

Rich, golden color and a sweet, hazy aroma to match. Somewhat reminiscent of dried fruit, but with a more pronounced mineral tone that lingers. Flavor is initially light, but finishes more towards the hoppy and bitter end; flavors range from grapefruit to hazelnut with an almost woody finish. Not particularly boozy, making it a nice sipping beer for a lazy Sunday afternoon, perhaps with a slab of Pont l’Eveque and dried figs?
