Commercial Description:
As the story goes, the charm of the Cap hails an otherwise mischievous band of winged-monkeys to carry out any three commands its owner wishes, such as carrying you from vast scarlet poppy fields to Emerald City, or even to the comfort of a country farmhouse. Golden Cap Saison however, brings the comfort to you with its modern interpretation of a traditional farmhouse ale. A soft, pale beer, Golden Cap accentuates the flavors and aromas of summer fields. Brewed with an ancestor to wheat called spelt, and bottle-conditioned; it's straw-colored body accentuated with lively carbonation and unique fermentation profile evoke fresh cut hay and cracked peppercorns. Ep-pe, pep-pe, kak-ke! Hil-lo, hol-lo, hel-lo! Ziz-zy, zuz-zy, zik!

12 oz. bottle from Fries Cafe in Cincinnati. Pours golden yellow with small off-white head. Aroma of wheat, mild fruit and citrus, hay, and bread. Flavors were largely the same, also with lemongrass and yeast. Medium body and carbonation and very smooth and easy to drink. Doesn’t leave much behind. Alcohol is hidden. Good warm weather beer.

Bottle. Nose is wheat and hay with a nice pepper running through. Flavor is more of the same, barnyardy components of hay, thistle mixxed with some white pepper and light bubblegum/clove. As it warms, more tropical fruit comes out (mangos, a little lemongrass). Finish is crisp and bubbly. All in all, I liked it more as I got through it and was dissapointed that I only had the one bottle.

Drank at Professor’s Pub in Kent. Light flavor was disappointing. I’ve had a lot stronger saisons.

Clear gold pour with a little bit of short-lived white head. Light lemony grain aroma with lots of Belgian esters and a hint of sour apple. The flavor is bready with lemongrass, clove, bubblegum and some pepperiness. The body is medium thin with lots of effervescent carbonation.

[Tap] Sample notes from January 2009. Pours a clear golden color with a pretty good looking head. Sweet grain in the aroma. Slightly funky taste, but muted compared to what I expected. Some grass and straw. Some yeast and wheat notes as well, but everything is pretty muted in this beer.

Had on tap in a pint glass. This wasn’t exactly like a good Belgian, but it was still good and extremely smooth and easy to drink for the style.

22oz bomber, served in a tulip. Highly hazed glowing golden pour with a one-finger thick head of off-white foam that quickly settled into a lasting cap. Thick rings of lace were left behind. The aroma consisted of fruity yeast esters, sweet citrus, stone fruit, lightly toasted wheat, and a light spiciness. The flavor had light biscuit, sweet oranges, a hint of lemon, and a faint peppery spice. Medium-bodied with light carbonation. Not very saison like, but still drinkable. Lacking the crisp, refreshing carboation I prefer in a saison.
