Commercial Description:
As the story goes, the charm of the Cap hails an otherwise mischievous band of winged-monkeys to carry out any three commands its owner wishes, such as carrying you from vast scarlet poppy fields to Emerald City, or even to the comfort of a country farmhouse. Golden Cap Saison however, brings the comfort to you with its modern interpretation of a traditional farmhouse ale. A soft, pale beer, Golden Cap accentuates the flavors and aromas of summer fields. Brewed with an ancestor to wheat called spelt, and bottle-conditioned; it's straw-colored body accentuated with lively carbonation and unique fermentation profile evoke fresh cut hay and cracked peppercorns. Ep-pe, pep-pe, kak-ke! Hil-lo, hol-lo, hel-lo! Ziz-zy, zuz-zy, zik!

Pours lightly hazy yellow / gold with a quickly diminishing white head. The aroma is plasticy with grains of paradise, lemon zest and doesn’t come off as a Belgian saison at all. Medium / light body with prickly carbonation. The flavor starts off with plastic / band aid then grainy and zesty. The finish is dry and a bit watery. Mediocre americanized saison.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville, VA.Pours a clear golden amber color with a large frothy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is caramel and bread with lots of dense, heavy stone fruit notes. Taste is grassy hops and grain with red apple, light spice and a caramel finish. Overall fairly thin.

(12oz bottle) Pours a very pale yellow with no head. Nose is mildly funky, spicy coriander. Taste is coriander, crisp hops, a mild watery body but the finish is the best part of this beer. I loved the flavor that stayed on my palette.

12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Nice pale yellow pour, with a faint cloudiness and a nice unassuming head/carbo. Strong lemon zest in the aroma, of the confectionary variety but not overly artificial nonetheless. Yeasty too, along with a very slight pepper addition. Moderate mouthfeel, prickly carbonation giving way a bit too quickly to a thin finish. The flavor is a bit too bready, with the chewy malts washing away the dry, spicy characteristics I seek in the style. But it’s certainly a decent summer go-to, even if not especially memorable as a saison.

Pours a clear gold, modest white head, minimal lace. Aroma somewhat faint, has a yeasty must to it. Flavor is musty, dry, over-attenuated. Some floral and zesty spices. Smooth, pleasing to the palate.

Pours golden and lightly hazy with a mostly receding off-white head. Notes of white grapes, orange peel, honey, flowers, and biscuit malt. Medium to full bodied with lively carbonation.

In short: An overly sweet and very perfumy blonde ale. Not much of a Saison.
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed fresh a few weeks after receiving it from dmschefke. Thanks a lot Dave for all the Saisons you sent me (even if this one was a miss).
The look: Partly cloudy blonde body topped by a medium white head
In long: Nose is a mix of perfumy flowers and phenols. Taste has a little wilderness but is much too sweet for the light wild character to come through. Corn syrup sweetness and flavour. Strong perfume notes with flavours of essential oils, flower petals and rose water. Fruity notes of sweet clementines and sweet apricots. The perfume notes and sweetness get annoying and stick around a long time in the finish. I’m very easy to please when it comes to Saison. Doesn’t have to be a great beer, as long as it is a honest Saison I’m happy. This one isn’t. I should have suspected it wasn’t a honest Saison. The cap is mainly silver.
