| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 20, 2009 Pours a deep amber into the glass, with a generous eggshell head that reduces to a thin cap, leaving thick soapy lace. The nose has a tiny bit of caramel peeking through a grassy pine hop. Flavors follow in tow, with lots of sweet caramel malt, some toffee, grapefruit, and nice pine resin to close the finish. This is definitely substantive, with a nice malty sweet texture, but the other complexities at work round out a full-body and thick, slathering palate. The IBU’s are not "overdone", as in the case of many IIPA’s, with the malt/hop balance even keel throughout the pull. A very substantive and nice offering! mar (1940), Dallas, Texas, USA
