Poured black as night with a creamy brown head. Roasted malt aroma with a little chocolate and espresso whiffs. Espresso flavor is really strong in the mouth. Very creamy, full bodied, but has a dry, bitter finish. Pretty good overall.

22oz bottle. Opaque black with a medium fluffy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts with coffee and subtle burnt wood. Deep roasted flavor with a little chocolate, bitter coffee, and dark fruit in the background. Thick on the palate with a nice medium carbonation. Alcohol is apparent, but not overwhelming. A delicious, complex beer.

taster poured from a bomber at grape and gourmet. pours a dark, slightly thick, chestnut brown with a thin tan head and big lacing. aroma was big roasted coffee, roasted nuts, a bit of dark chocolate, and some dark fruits. flavor follows the aroma nicely with big, roasted coffee flavors, some smoke, licorice, chocolate, and just a hint of dark fruits after the swallow. palate is full bodied, a bit sticky, with just a bit of alcohol warmth. overall, a pretty decent impy stout.

Sample: Pours a chocolate brown with a tan head. Smell is roasted malts. Coffee up front in the taste followed by sweet chocolate. Alcohol is hidden really well. Really enjoyed this one.

On tap at Lunar Brewing, snifter served. Poured a dark black/brown, with a tan, foamy head and good, clingy lacing. The nose was roasty with a nice combo of initial sweetness to dryness, brought on by dark coffee, and a touch of baker’s chocolate. With these, the flavor added a little tobacco, and notes of molasses and caramel. The mouthful and what I got on my hands were a little sticky, but the body was full and the finish had a nice bitterness that had built up from the flavor.

Dark brown and murky. Stinging and chewy, raising with lots of alcohol. Soft malts. Big, chewy and rounded. Sweet, raisiny, pruney and thick. Fairly standard impy but nicely done.

Bottle. Viscous black-brown with very small head. Rich coffee liqueur aroma, pleasant ashiness, and coffee. Smooth creamy mouthfeel. Lovely rich dark stewed fruity goodness. Love it.

Black in colour with a medium sized tan colour head, good lacing. The aroma was of dark chocolate, roasted malts, some coffee, earthy, dark fruits. The flavour is of rich dark chocolate, coffee, roasted and toasted malts, nuts, earthy. Lightly bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes bitter with just a bit of alcohol.

This one was pretty good. Smooth in the mouth, never hot. The alcohol is fairly well hidden.

Bottle at Mondial 2008, Montreal, Quebec.
Sampled on May 30, 2008.
