| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 31, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a black body with a thin, dark brown head that dies quickly and leaves minimal lacing. Unimpressive aroma of sugary molasses, chalky chocolate, cheap coffee, dark fruits, and a woody booze note. The flavor is by far better than the aroma, but still unimpressive. Their is a lot of flavor to this, but nothing out of the ordinary and not amongst the best Imp Stouts. Initially a soft roasted malt with a sugary sweet molasses/brown sugar and a rich medium chocolate. A rich and creamy caramel to it too. Moves to a small amount of dark fruit in the middle before finishing woody, sweet chocolatey, bit of grapefruit, and a touch of boozy vanilla. Not a lot of hop bitterness throughout. The lingering flavor is sweet with no real roastiness. Just a pinch of coffee in the finish. Palate is pretty full and very creamy throughout. Warming with a slightly boozy quality on the way down. Overall, a nice palate and pretty solid chocolate sweetness, just not enough roasts or hops to put this over the top. Still enjoyable, however. mreusch (732), Olathe, Kansas, USA

Pours a dark brown, with a thin bubbly tan head, moderate retention and lacing. Aroma is low quality coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and light licorice. Flavor is chalky, with some cocoa and chocolate. Kind of a meh IS, not terrible or anything, but none too exciting. Thanks for sharing Greg! jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA

Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, and a nice bit of licorice. Big roasty flavor with chocolate, coffee, and more licorice. Very nice roasted coffee notes throughout. Dark fruits emerge as body warms. Palate is full and creamy but slightly sticky. Really delicious on a cold night. BelgianBeerGal (1291), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Bottle via trade. Poured a very dark brown with a bubbly head that reminded me of chocolate milk. Big aromas of semi sweet chocolate and light coffee. The flavour was not my favourite though. Just a bit too much bite, not from any hops or coffee or chocolate bitterness but more from acid. Just a hint of alcohol in the finish. The description talks about a curious palate and it does deliver that. kramer (2465), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours pitch black body with a one finger creamy brown head that fell to a thin wispy film. The nose is intensely roasty and very sweet with some dark fruits, coffee, dry yeast, licorice, and a touch of alcohol. The flavor is over roasted with lots of malt astringency and a bit of an acrid bite. Some chocolate and dark fruits on the back end. Noticeable but not overpowering alcohol. Mouthfeel is full bodied and oily in texture with soft light carbonation. Lingering sticky burnt malt finish. Just big and over done with not a whole lot of complexity or subtlety. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 26, 2008 Pours jet black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is very rich chocolate and coffee with a nice nuttiness and some vanilla bean notes. Flavor starts with a huge dose of chocolate syrupy malted sugar. Picks up some creamy dark fruit and bitter coffee, toffee and dark chocolate. Finishes slightly bitter but a bit of licorice and alcohol. Sticky and syrupy mouthfeel with a full body and low to moderate carbonation. Very rich and warming imperial stout definitely worthy of being over a four. Nicely done. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 19, 2008 Pour from a 22oz bottle. Pours black with almost no head. Minimal carbonation. Aroma is of chocolate, wood, dark fruits, roasted malt, and alcohol. Taste was a big roasted, almost woody malt flavor, with dark fruits, caramel, and licorice. Huge alcohol bite leaves a very long warming feel. Body is thick and robust. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky. This is definitely a sipper due to the alcohol content.
