Heavy roast aromas, malt and coffee. A little boozy. Really big beer in the mouth, very full bodied, but creamy. Roasted malts with molasses, some caramel and chocolate. Just a hint of coffee bitters. Nice warmer, had this around a campfire in the backyard. This borders on an Imperial sweet stout, if there was such a thing. My favorites are similar in style, so naturally I found this to be excellent. I’m wondering if being six months since release has helped. Have another that I’ll keep a little longer. Far and away the best I’ve had from New Holland. Though the Dragon’s milk is pretty good. CoachJT (35), Columbia, South Carolina, USA

Very interesting head wih coffee, roasted malts and just a hint of chocolate. Nice creamy mouthfeel with flavor to match the aroma. Great beer, I’m sad that it’s a seasonal. cblado (150), Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 21, 2008 22 oz bottle. Poured a deep brown color, completely opaque. No head too, very odd. Aroma was mostly a toasted malt, some caramel. Flavor was more toast flavor, malt, molasses, and a very sweet creamy finish. This is one of the sweeter stouts I’ve had, actually. Palate was slick, buttery. Overall a good imperial stout. I’d have it again. leeburg (149), Juneau, Alaska, USA

Pours black with a thin dark brown head that faded to a ring after the first quarter of the glass and left very little lace. Very pleasant aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruits and coffee. The flavor is very similar to the aroma with some mild/moderate hops bitterness at the finish. Very good. TwoDudes (77), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 7, 2008 Enoyed this very much. Thanks to Joel from New Holland for the sample. An Imperial Stout that wasn’t oak-aged. Sort of a novelty at this point. Nice caramel head that lingers. Mouthfeel is big, but smooth. Palate is a dusty cocoa that just begs to be shared with some sort of dessert. Very nice beer. Darkover (1314), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 30, 2008 It’s been sitting in my basement longer than I thought it would. The forgotten beer. A cool night. Time to finally open it. Pours without any head (reminds me of Expedition). But there is lots of coffee and roasty taste here. Very nice overall. Balanced. Rich. I get that burnt sugar taste someone else here notes. Nice.
