| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 16, 2008 Opaque black pour with chocolate covered head. Aroma is chocolate, dark fruit. Flavor is of dark chocolate, burnt toast, dried and dark fruits and alcohol. It’s pretty roasty, with an almost herbal finish. Nice big mouthfeel. Overall, this is a great beer, if you can find it, try it. rgrady3 (8), Minnesota, USA does not count | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 14, 2008 Solid black pour with absolutely no head. Aroma is full of chocolate and malt and a hint of coffee. Thick consistency that is not unpleasant. Chocolate carries into the first sip with hints off coffee and roasted nuts that is balanced nicely with a slightly burnt, bitter flavor throughout. Finish is pleasantly bitter with building bnose. Nuttiness lingers on the palate. This is a good one, but it’s a little heavy and is best shared. HogTownHarry (4026), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2008 Bottle (22oz). Shared with blankboy and garthicus. Poured nearly opaque black with a lasting large frothy pancake batter dark tan head. Solid oily roast aroma, moderate alcohol, syrupy (in a good way), with a hint of sour cherry and coffee. The taste follows, deeper roast, nut oil slickness, building lactic sourness and a long acidic coffee ground/alcohol finish. Average body only, solidly acidic, nice and slick and tingly on the tongue - this one has its own character, dry, oily and funky all at once in the linger - pretty nice, not overly boozy. blankboy (3258), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours black with a small diminishing creamy beige head. Good lacing. Nice aroma of roasted malt, coffee, light green hops, chocolate and mild lactic notes. Flavour of roasted sweet malt, coffee, chocolate and like the aroma, a touch lactic -- quite mocha-like. Nice long roasty/bitter finish. Alcohol pretty well hidden. Medium to full bodied. Good stuff, I liked it. wetherel (1641), Encinitas, California, USA

Pitch black color. Heavy body. Very small to no head of small bubbles. Low aroma. Aroma of ethanol, some malt. Sweetish. Decent, and best with some cheese to offset the bigness of the beer. mabel (2626), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Dark dark brown body with quick creamy light tan bubbles. Sweet burnt sugar malt flavour has notes of roasted candy cane. Full body is sweet and boozy. Interesting but the sweetness could be more subtle.
