| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 27, 2008 This bottled brew from Indianapolis, IN poured a small sized head of foam with a frothy top of brown colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind an opaque black colored body with no visible carbonation. The aroma was of cocoa coffee hops dark malts and a mild vinous note. The mouth feel was mildly tingly from start to finish. The flavor contained notes of thick coffee dark malt and hops. It was very yummy. An excellent stout! fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 24, 2008 Bottle courtesy Gillard. Pours black with a one finger tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is a bit boozy but has a good amount of roasted malt, chocolate, and dark fruit. Taste is heavy chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, and just a touch of alcohol on the finish. Full oily mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and very smooth alcohol. A damn fine brew vaughn (4), miamisburg, Ohio, USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 19, 2008 this stout is an absolute favorite of mine, from the tan head to the hints of cocoa and caramel, it has some hops to give it a bite. the beer gets better as it warms about 58 deg. I feel is the best a nice pick me up on a cool eve. kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 18, 2008 22 oz bottle: Thin and short lived tan head on a thick, almost black, oily body. Roasty and chocolate malts dominate the aroma @ first; Lightly toasty and solventy w/ a moderate cookie dough and caramel malt aroma. Hints of raisiny fruit and solventy gets stronger as it warms, and oddly enough, a strange bit of what seems to be pencil lead (graphite). The flavor is chocolate dominant w/ a roasty and herbal hop flavor. Deeply caramel and lightly dark fruity (raisins) with a semi dry finish and lingering hop flavor and light bitterness. Aftertaste is roasty, herbal, and lightly bitter. As seemingly big as this beer is, I thought it would be a little more up front with most of the flavors, but they seem to be lighter than they should be to me. And as oily as it poured, the body seems a bit thin for an imperial stout. It is smooth, I’ll give them that, but it’s also a bit hot at the finish. Carbonation is on the low side. Not a bad beer, but compared to the BORIS the Crusher I just had, this seems a bit flat on the palate. It’s not a bad beer by any means, but I’m not sure I’m 100% sold on this one. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 16, 2008 Courtesy mgumby10. Pours a very dark mahogany brown color with a frothy, tan head. Sudsy lacing leaves random spotting behind. Aromas are rich and sweet, with notes of caramel and chocolate fudge dominating. Flavors are similarly simple, yet inviting. Chocolate and caramel again rise above all else, with traces of vanilla and nougat emerging in the background. There is a faint, dark, indiscernible fruitiness there as well. Medium-full bodied, smooth, and creamy, the mouthfeel is really nice. Overall, this is far from complex, but very enjoyable nonetheless.
