| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 2, 2008 Bottle. Very small, very bubbly light brown head that mostly lasted, opaque, virtually no lacing, and a black hue with a bit of a bronze tint. Nose was malty, roasty, chocolate, hint of smoke, some raisins, and some coffee. Flavor was malt, roasty, some vanilla, smokey, lightly bitter, and some chocolate. Mouthfeel was smooth and a bit oily.Very quaffable brew, easy to drink as this is a very smooth beer, very tasty, nicely done by the folks at New Holland. Worthy of a try and I would drink this beer again. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2008 Bottle broght over by scubarex. This poured black in color with very fine brown bubbles that faded pretty quick. The nose was filled with vanilla, milk chocolate, light bourbon, coffee and plum. In the mouth it was medium-bodied and smooth showing a candied element. It was rich and hedonistic with some of the alcohol poking out. dkachur (2429), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 30, 2008 Pours a very dark black with almost no head whatsoever, just the faintest hint of a dark brown cap. Not too much going on with the nose, rich sweet treacly malts tempered by a decent level of roasted smokiness, a mild grassy hop aroma. Very softly carbonated, starting with dark berries and toffee on the palate before a bitter espresso character takes it through to a somewhat thin finish. Alcohol is a little too upfront for a style that usually cloaks it well. Not bad, but not great. Beaver (600), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Apr 30, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a dark brownish-black with no head, even after a vigorous pour.
The aroma is sweet chocolate, dark fruits (plum) and some rum cakey alcohol.
The flavor is roasted fudgy chocolate and coffee with a slight tang of dark fruits. It has a big bitter roasted and tarry alcoholic finish that is a bit over the top and slightly off tasting. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and watery with no carbonation.
Overall, I really like the flavor of this, other than the finish. The lack of carbonation hurts it as well. This is close to being an awesome brew. Dangle (31), Cullowhee, North Carolina, USA

Sweet complex taste. Fudge, crispy toll house cookies, and molasses. Alc. is hidden well.
