| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 7, 2008 Bottle. Thick black pour that slowly releases a one finger orangish tan head. Aromas are a lovely mix of burnt malt scents that are reminsicent of peat and a little smoke, coffee and dark chocolate, soy sauce and a little touch of alcohol. Flavor is more of the same with a thick alcoholic bite to it. Molasses and soy flavors come through stronger in the taste than in the nose. Nice, but there is a little bit too much bite to the alcohol at cellar temperature. CP (124), USA

Flavor of chocolate, coffee and over ripe fruit, and pretty creamy. The alcohol gets in the way a bit for me. I liked it, but probably won’t serve it. StFun (534), Indiana, USA

It is hard to say that something is underrated at 96 percentile, but this one very well might be. Just a terrific and complex brew, I was very impressed. Pours a jet black, thick and doesn’t let any light through at all. Very thick and tan head. Loads and loads of coffee in the flavor. Very chewy, great mixture of malts and barley. Nice hints of chocolate, with some light fruit on the backend. Thickens as it warms, becomes even bolder. A little too boozy in spots, but that’s really the only thing holding it back. One review said this was very different, in a good way, and I couldn’t agree more. Fantastic. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 4, 2008 bottle, from Cary Whole Foods. Ok aroma, bitter sweet. Roasted grains, chocolate, ABV, little soy sauce. Brownish black color, small head, ok lacing. Bitter sweet flavor. Chocolate malt balls come to mind. Medium body, oily smooth mouthfeel, bitter finish. Dunno, easy to drink and overall. Flavor had a nice cocoa streak about it. Didn’t floor me though. At times it got a little dull and I didn’t rush to finish it. WallyWalrus (205), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 3, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours a motor oil black with a thin brown lacing. Aroma is sweet and dark, with strong scents of caramel, coffee and roasted malt. Taste is fairly full, with an initial taste of smoke, roasted malt, and chocolate giving way to a long, velvety finish of caramel, coffee, and a bitter twinge of hops, anise, and booze. Not your average imperial stout, and I mean it in a good way.
