Pours dark blackish with 1-finger off-tan head and lacing that dissipates somewhat quickly after a nice coating. Nose is roasty dark malt, chocoff, creamy, with late figgy and brown sugar notes in the flavor. Solid complexity, fairly hefty palate, and well hidden alcohol make this yet another world class example from this, my favorite beer style with the possible exception of IIPA. kassner (457), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 15, 2009 On tap at Magoos. No head, some tan lacing, Darkchocolate color, musty, smokey, with lots of roasted malt and sharp hops, significant alcohol taste, cherries and a mellow finish. Not Storm King but pretty good. paiste2002 (158), Saugus, California, USA

Pours pitch black with a huge tan head that very quickly falls off to a thin tan ring. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, roasted malt and alcohol. Flavor is very much the same coffee, chocolate, toffee, roasted malt with a touch of vanilla, creamy with huge mouth feel. Chocolaty bittersweet finish. Very nice well made beer, but not a stand out. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 12, 2009 Roasted coffee and oak in the nose. Dark, opaque pour with a mocha head. Flavor has strong coffee presence, with a small chocolate accent. Even grassy, kinda like Palo Santo Marron. Alcohol is not hidden at all. Palate is creamy, and the beer is full bodied. Pretty good, not in the top tier though. jstraw (769), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 8, 2009 A big brew, lots of roasty notes and a big dark alcohol bite, not much subtlety here, but still insanely drinkable, yet smooth, a very sneaky brew... after afew minutes the head dies down, a dark still demon black .. . super smooth, a great sipper, yet massive and bold still keeps its dignity
... seriously.... i am more of a day tripper ,the last few years of high school would confirm that, but being a night tripper can be exciting too...but make sure not to take 3 hits of acid, strap red blinking lights to your visor, and drive around your neighbor hood smoking finally ending the adventure by trenching a neighbors yard and hiding in your bros room smoking sticky buds with with your boys including nick and juice!!!... you will burn your hand in the end... | 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 7, 2009 I tracked down a bottle of this at Lukas Liquor Superstore in Ballwin, MO. The pour was surprisingly rich and the slow developing head after pouring was equally as rich. The flavor was extremely mild and the heat from the alcohol was minimal. I think that with more clever packaging this could be another top imperial. Will try again. Highly recommended!!! BillKismet (1944), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 5, 2009 Brown-maroon colored with a modest head. Nice chocolate roast aroma, pretty restrained overall for the style. Brown malt flavors with medium chocolate and moderately deep maltiness. Alcohol appears midway through. Overly sweet, and seemingly under-attenuated for the style.
