22 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with a small light brown quickly fading head leaving poor lacing. The aroma is of heavy roasted malts, along with light coffee, no hop aroma, slight alcohol aroma. Taking a drink, Huge roasted malts, followed up by heavy coffee. A light bitterness in the end. The palate is medium to heavy with soft carbonation. Overall, it is alright, way to much roasted malts for me, it was almost to bitter from the malts.

Bottle on 08/22/2009. Dark black body with a large creamy tan head. Big chocolate, roast and bitter hop aroma. Dark roasty flavor, some coffee and chocolate with a bit of an ashy note and a good bitter finish. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation.

Clear dark red brown color with a small, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, dusty coffee, moderate alcoholc. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light heavy bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. [20090922]

Bottle. I like the joker. Not much of a head on the pour, but the aroma is killer -- rich and promising a full-flavored beer. It doesn’t disappoint -- solidly assembled cacophony of rich roasty flavors here, dark fruit, and chocolate mousse. Delish! (#3752, 11/23/2009)

bottle, pours black with a thin to medium dark tan head. Strong roasty coffee and chocolate ice cream aromas. Nice mouthfeel, some oats seem to be adding a nice creamyness and the low carbonation helps as well. Lots of chocolate again, very sweet but not overly, some vanilla bean and a little expresso. Very enjoyable, and a complete suprise!

bomber from greens in atlanta. black pour with a sturdy looking tan head that actually isn’t -- disappears quick like, leaving a ring and some soapy lacing. roasted malt and chocolate aroma with dark fruits and a musty vibe to it. first thing noticed in the taste is the alcohol -- not necessarily in an unpleasant way, but front and center for sure. figs, toasted brown sugar and cherry tastes work through to an astringent bitter finish. kinda similar to storm king, but not quite as balanced. overall, good sipper - warms you right up.
