Consumed during the New Holland beer and chocolate pairing at Great Taste of the Midwest on 8-9-2008. Pours a clear near-orange with near-white head. Light aroma features a sherry-like scent. Nice, sweet, floral taste contains raisin flavor and fruity bitterness. Thick and slick in the palate. Quite good. Beerman6686 (1292), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 7, 2008 Poured a cloudy orange with an off white head. Aroma was very sweet and malty with some alcohol showing through. Flavor was lighter than expected, i guess due to the wheat, but still very sweet and does not cover up the alcohol very well at all. after4ever (2791), Brier, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 25, 2008 22. Screenprinted bottle, a year or two old or so at this tasting. Crystal clear dark amber. Headless. Enormously sweet nose--orangey wheat aroma that’s just ballistic. Attractive, but out of balance even after decanting a bit. Creamy, thick, sticky body. Orangey, biscuity, twangy. Way too much but oddly satisfying--for all its quirks we still finished the bottle before opening anything else. alexsdad06 (1094), Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 22, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a small ivory head. The aroma is moderately sweet with caramel malt, orange citrus, and alcohol standing out. The flavor has quite a bit of sweetness to it. There is some malt presence, but theacidic orange citrus dominates. The alcohol is present in the form of a slow burn as the liquid travels down my throat. Medium bodied, a bit sticky, and definetly on the hot side. I’m not sure how old this one is since they are now being made in bombers. Kevster (226), Bradenton, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 20, 2008 22 oz.bomber: Pours a copper-red with a minimal off-white head. Aroma is intially sweet with hints of caramel and has an alcohol presence. Flavor is sweet with hints of vanilla, caramel and a mild bourbon presence. The medium body is sticky on the mouthfeel leaving a dry alcohol taste in the finish. Enjoyable but will take you a while to drink if you got the bomber to yourself. Boozy bourbon and sweet maltiness dominate the nose. Medium-bodied and oily-slick with a lightly dry and woody finish. Sweet caramel and a bit of dark fruit front the flavor with a warm maltiness through the middle and a woody/hoppy finish. I thought this was a pretty tasty brew. Thanks for sharing it with us, Chris. csbosox (1082), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA

The nose is pretty much what I would expect for a barrel aged barleywine, of course it is not barrel aged. There seems to be lot of wood. A bit hot, not really all that enjoyable. notalush (2678), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 6, 2008 Dark copper beer with a loose lace of large bubbles - aroma of dough (cookie and bread), caramel, vanilla, strong bourbon character amplified by alcohol, and the faintest bit of wheat - the aroma is a little hot, but I love bourbon, so its similarities to it make it inviting to me - the flavor is a bit sticky and sweet up front, with notes of caramel-covered fruits - some nutty flavor arrives later, and a touch of bitterness cuts the sweetness a little bit - vanilla and bourbon character, and even a hint of oak assert themselves near the end, and an alcohol warmth again augments the boozy characteristics - some chocolate in the finish - I don’t often like boozy beer, but it works in this case.
