Commercial Description:
A Wheatwine Style Ale.

In early 14th Century England, Sir William of Wykeham began a tradition to assist wayfarers on holy pilgrimages. Travelers would go to the Hospital of St. Cross in Winchester for a free ration, or "dole", of bread and ale. This became known as the "Pilgrim's Dole".

2008 bottle..Call me crazy but this reminded me of Angel’s Share a little bit. It has an aroma of caramel, bourbon, and maybe hints of vanilla. Flavor is suprisingly light and takes on a different character...very sweet with a slight amount of hop bitterness. Palate is very smooth for a wheat wine. Definitely worth checking out

Objectively speaking: 2003 bottle which showed obvious signs of age. A wheat wine in which the wheat remains shy.
I like: Bottle-conditioned, though rather ugly sediments. Fruity (apricot, figs), toasty notions.
I dislike: Headless. Quite yeasty rather than clean. Rather tough alcohol despite advanced age. Advanced sherry-like oxidation (vanilla, powdery nut skin, stale honey). Absent hops. Timid wheatiness. Loose body with quickly dying carbonation.

Aroma of red fruit jam, some graininess, and a blast furnaceof evaporating alcohol. Taste was malt dominated with caramels ,wheat tartness, and again lots of alchol successfuly dominating, It was a nice brew to sip at their outdoor cafe, and people watch

Pour is slightly hazed reddish amber with a thin off white head...smell is yeasty and sweet with molasses and prunes...taste is musty and fruity with dates and raisins and some dirt too...not impressive...

bottle from SAMs wine. I wasn’t expectingmuch but this is a great beer. If I didn’t know better, I’d think it was bourbon ba. Huge caramel, bourbon and vanilla notes. Very good.

This is an outstanding beer.Bottle from Three Son’s in Wexford, from an open Tulip Glass (Hommel). Not much head or carbonation, beautiful ruby amber color. Sweet and fragrent, with Grapes, Pinneapple and Mango, but finishes clean. Strong enough so a great use of Wheat and a nice bitter finish.

Clear dull red with a big head. Sticky resinous hop and caramel aroma with toasted bread and citrus. Sweet and candy like in flavor, hoppy with caramel malt. A bit thin in body. Low bitterness. Not exactly a wheat beer by any definition I know of but not too bad.

Dark tea color with no head or even a ring of foam. Biting hops that jump from the glass and alcohol are the first impression. Flavor is also sugar and malt, butter and fruit. This is not a beer for the meek. It grabs the tongue and does some wonderful things to it. This beer is wonderfully complex and a delight to sample. It loses a bit on appearance and feel but other than that this one kicks ass!
