| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 7, 2005 Funny that I rate this one right after Founders Devil Dancer. Well maybe not funny but ironic, both being Michigan brews, both picked up on the same day at the store, both being slightly lighter versions of the DFH 120, both being super hopped up. Anyways, pours out a dark but clear amber, very small head around the brim of the glass. Nose is big on hop, hints of caramel and malt, but really mostly just big hop. Flavor is piney, some citrus fruit, but its minimal, also some hints of caramel. Fruit and spice also make mentions creating for a nice delivery from New Holland. thegreenrooster (1842), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Sep 29, 2005 Pour is a very clear copper with a white head. Aroma is yeasty and doughy with some hops in there. Flavor is where this loses points. At first you notice the super sweet vinegar then comes the sour apple pucker at the swallow. This is not even close to a barley wine. MaiBockAddict (1499), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 28, 2005 Bottle. Clear copper, floaties, thin tan head. Decent maple syrup malty spucy aged barleywine aroma. Malty flaovrs with a hint of sharp hops, but the malt is not complimenting the hops the way I like. Very fruity yet oddly not meshing right. Thick malts, but the malt flavors do not linger. Needs something but not sure what. Makes me think when I want to drink. TheEnemy (422), Chicago, USA

Awful cooked-cabbage aroma. Acetic apple-cider flavor dominates almost like it was oak-aged -- wheat, perhaps? (Is there such a thing as a wheat barleywine?) Some hop spiciness eventually comes through. A bit sticky on the tongue. Intriguing beer, but if this is a barleywine, I’m thin and pretty. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 26, 2005 a reddish orange with a soapy white head, big aroma, but not that pleasant of one, yeast and vinegar. cloyingly sweet flavor with a strong sour apple tail. bitter on the aftertaste as well as strong in the abv department. not gonna make my list of even decent barley wines. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 10, 2005 Medium dark copper with ruby linning, a small head and very nice lace. Aroma is yeasty and doughy with sour apple tones. Flavor is appley with light bitterness, fairly sweet, lots of wheat, lightly yeasty, quite sour, almost like a lambic. Flavors realy come out and together as it warms (it was much much better after leaving it out for a bit), becomes less appley and sour and more doughy. Nice alcohol presence throughout. 1FastSTi (2580), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 8, 2005 Poured to a beautiful golden color with a thin quickly but not fully disapating head with good lacing. Very malty aroma with grape soda playdoh hints. The flavor is of dried pineapple slices and wheat with a touch of lemon and pear. The palate is pretty creamy but you can taste the alcohol and it has a little tartness to it. Definitely different than a barley wine.
